10 AES has a new homework philosophy. We feel your child’s time with you should be QUALITY time. Therefore, written homework will be minimal. Things you should look for and work on, even if they are NOT assigned include: Spelling Stems Reading for pleasure to increase fluency Math facts Occasional projects As the STAAR tests draws near, expect some targeted skill practice.

11 Absences Due to state guidelines, a student is permitted no more than 10 absences in the course of one school year. Whenever your child is absent from school, an excuse note is required when he/she returns. Please make sure it has your child’s first and last name, the date they missed and their homeroom teacher’s name. Families have up to 3 school days to send in a note explaining their child’s absence in order for it to be counted as “excused.” Vacations will not be excused. If you are emailing an excuse note to your child’s teacher, please include the attendance clerk in your email. Her email address is francile.phelps@granburyisd.org.francile.phelps@granburyisd.org Our school day begins at 7:45. Your child will be marked tardy if they arrive after the bell.

12 FIELD TRIPS The PTO is generous enough to pay for a portion of our field trip. Extra money is occasionally needed to cover the cost. This is done through fundraising and donations. We will have several field trips this year. You will receive further information well in advance of the trip. Trips in the making: Camp Grady Spruce Crossland 9 th Grade Center High School STEMS tour

13 As you leave, take a moment to see your child’s classroom. Please sign the sign-in sheet in your child’s classroom before leaving.
