3 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Welcome! This instruction module reviews the steps for using TS3 email. It also shows ways it can be used to promote good work habits and promote sharing of academic information among students. 3

9 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Review Logging in Go to http://www.bcpss.org.http://www.bcpss.org Click the log in button near the top of the screen. Your username is your payroll number preceded by a lower case letter e. So, for example, if your payroll number is 54321, then your log in username is e54321. Your password is the same as the password you use for your City Schools email account. 9

10 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS After logging in, click on the My Places link near the top of the screen. If you are a teacher, click on the link for the course you are now teaching. You will only be able to email students who are in your classes. 10

11 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Checking to See If Your Students Are Enrolled In The System Once you log in to your course, look in the upper right hand corner. The message should read, “Edit mode is on.” If this is not the case, click the word, “off,” to turn edit mode on. 11

12 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Click on the Control Panel button on the lower left side of the page until it expands. 12

14 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Click on the Users link. Scroll through the list to verify that your students are entered into the system. If you do not see your students’ names, then they cannot be a part of the email system on TSS. Contact the Heritage High School Registrar to have students electronically added to the TSS system. To perform this process yourself, consult the following set of directions. 14 IF YOUR STUDENTS HAVE TROUBLE LOGGING IN TO TS3, YOU CAN FIND STUDENTS’ USERNAMES AND PASSWORDS HERE.

15 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Sending and Receiving Messages Click on the Control Panel button on the lower left side of the page until it expands. Click the link for Course Tools, then Messages. 15

16 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Your choices are to create a message or view messages in your inbox. Whichever choice you make, simply follow the onscreen directions and click the Submit button at the end. For accountability purposes, related to this grant, please send a copy of all messages to Julius Zuke. These emails are needed as documentation at the quarterly progress meetings. 16

18 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Creating Groups To create groups which contain two or more email addresses, click on the Control Panel button on the lower left side of the page until it expands. Click on the Users and Groups link until it expands. Click on the Groups link. 18

19 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS 19 Click on the button, “Create Single Group.” Click on “Manual Enroll.” Follow the onscreen directions and click the Submit button at the end. You may create as many groups as you wish by repeating these steps.

20 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Sending Group Messages Click on the Users and Groups link until it expands. Click on the Groups link. Click on the name of the group to which you wish to send a message. Click the link, “Send Email.” Follow the onscreen directions and click the Submit button at the end. 20

21 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS 21 Go to http://www.bcpss.org.http://www.bcpss.org Click the log in button near the top of the screen. Your username student ID number. Your password is your first name, with the first letter of your first name capitalized.

26 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Click Inbox to read messages sent to you; click Sent to read messages you sent to others. Click Create Messages to send a message. Simply follow the onscreen directions and click the Submit button at the end. 26

27 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Students Sending Messages 27 STEP ONE: CLICK THE “TO” BUTTON TO CHOOSE WHO WILL RECEIVE THE MESSAGE.

28 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS 28 Click on the name of a person who will receive your message.

29 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS 29 Click the arrow to put the person on the mailing list. Repeat the process if you want to send the message to more than one person. Click the “select all” button to send it to everyone in the class.

30 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Now move to step 2. 30 TYPE IN A SUBJECT. TYPE IN YOUR MESSAGE.

31 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Now move to step 3. 31 Attaching files to your email is the smart, safe way to send your work to teachers and classmates. Click the “browse” button to find your file on the computer where you are working. You don’t have to send an attachment.

32 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS 32 CLICK ON THE FILE YOU WANT TO ATTACH, THEN CLICK “OPEN.”

33 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS 33 THE FILE IS NOW ATTACHED. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER TYPE IN THE BOX NEXT TO ‘BROWSE.”

34 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS 34 TEACH STUDENTS TO USE THE CC BUTTON TO SEND THEIR COMMUNICATIONS TO THE TEACHER.

35 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS You can use TS3 email to: Comment on a student idea or understanding. Respond to misundertandings. Challenge students to extend their own knowledge Direct students to each other for dialog. Warn students about inappropriate habits or behavior. Gather student work. Respond to student work. Create an online portfolio of student work/student work habits. Praise students. Communicate with other team members, with the knowledge of the student. Remind students of deadlines. Communicate assignments. Express concern over absences and latenesses. 35

36 B ALTIMORE C ITY P UBLIC S CHOOLS Have yourself enrolled as a teaching assistant in your colleagues’ courses. Share information about a student that you have in common, both with the colleague and with the student at the same time. Choose three students from each of your classes and send them a message of praise, concern, or extension activity. 36
