5 Dr Paul Belt Dr Paul Belt is a Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon based in Brisbane. He works publicly at the Princess Alexandra Hospital, and privately at Brisbane Private and Greenslopes Hospitals and Pacific Day Surgery in Fortitude Valley. He obtained his basic Medical training in Oxford and his advanced training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Brisbane. He has also completed a Fellowship in Oxford and London before returning to Brisbane as a consultant 11 years ago. His specialist interests are in Reconstructive and aesthetic surgery of the breast, head and neck and lower limb, body contour surgery, microsurgery, gynaecomastia, labioplasty, and the treatment of skin malignancies. Dr Paul Belt will be speaking on suturing technique. There will also be demonstrations using various suture material.

6 Dr Phil Lockie I am an Australian and UK trained Upper GI and Laparoscopic surgeon. I was trained mainly in the UK before completing an Upper GI Fellowship at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and this was followed by a Laparoscopic Surgical Fellowship in Canberra. I was awarded my Fellowship from the Australian College of Surgeons in 2006.I specialise in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery of the abdomen and gastrointestinal tract. I offer a comprehensive range of weight loss procedures, all performed laparoscopically. I am a member of the European Hernia Society and have a particular interest in the laparoscopic repair of groin and abdominal hernias.Dr Phil Lockie will be speaking on Laparoscopic skills with demonstrations for attendees using Laparoscopic Trainers

7 Dr David De Leacy A graduate of the University of Queensland Medical School in 1974 (MBBS), Dr De Leacycompleted his residency at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Uponcompletion he worked in a number of roles including ruralmedicine, general practice and a year as a MedicalOfficer in Antarctica for ANARE (1987) before finishinghis training in pathology at the Royal Brisbane Hospital having earlier also trained at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. After gaining his fellowship in 1988 Dr De Leacy worked as a Consultant Haematologist at the Royal Canberra Hospital followed by a position as Assistant Director at the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service (Qld). He spent 10 years overseas working as Head of Laboratories/Director of Medical Services at Wadi al Dawasir Military Hospital, Saudi Arabia, as a Consultant Haematologist at the National Blood Service, UK and for the NZ Blood Service/Canterbury Health Service Laboratories, and also for the WHO for one year in Vietnam. In 2003 Dr De Leacy returned to Australia to work as a Consultant Haematologist at the St John of God Pathology/Pathcare Laboratories Victoria before joining QML Pathology in 2008.

8 Dr Patrick Bergin Dr Patrick Bergin grew up in Brisbane, attending the University of Qld and graduating with an MBBS in 1997. Patrick completed radiology training in 2006 after training in hospitals in Brisbane, Adelaide and Townsville. Patrick did a fellowship in MRI and cross sectional imaging at Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2006. He has worked as a staff consultant at RBWH. Patrick has published many articles in peer reviewed journals and presented at local and international meetings. Patrick has many years experience working in private practice in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, as well as Mackay, Toowoomba and Albury. Patrick has been involved in the care of many professional sporting teams in Brisbane including the Queensland Reds, Wallabies, Queensland Roar, Queensland Bulls and the Queensland Firebirds. Patrick has special interests in all facets of MRI, including neuroimaging, musculoskeletal and body imaging.

9 Mr David Stewart David has over 17 years’ experience in the health and government sector and is recognised across the state and nationally for developing and delivering strategic plans. He has expertise in the design and delivery of large scale service systems in health services including service delivery and workforce modelling, strategic leadership, change management and program management. He has worked in a variety of clinical and senior management positions. He has recently taken on the role as a Senior Director within the Office of the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Office. David has recently worked in the area of Data Integrity and Patient Safety. David has experience in developing and implementing Queensland Health policies and strategies particularly related to nursing services.
