 An estimated 80,700,000 American adults (one in three) have one or more types of cardiovascular disease  Every minute counts. For every minute heart failure goes untreated, unrecoverable damage occurs to the heart muscle

 Current heart monitoring equipment is commonly stationary, available to patients at hospitals or at their house  Patients’ lifestyle often makes it difficult for them to access heart monitoring equipment.  Health care professionals need live data on the health of their patients to help them during emergencies

 Device  Measure the ECG wave form and analyze  Portable, wireless  Detect if the user is having a heart attack or any other heart problem.  Mobile phone  Receive the alert of the device and send a message to the persons previously selected  Beyond our scope  Power consumption optimization of the Analog circuit

 Software optimization. Should be easy installable within a 15 minutes by Nov 2.  Have a working prototype by Nov 21.  Hand in a written system manual to the project manager for review. It should describe all the system functionalities and legal disclaimers by Nov 24.  Tests in different scenarios. This will help to detect any situation not considered in the design process by Nov 25.

 Electrocardiogram:  Measure of the heart’s electrical activity  Heart Rate  PR Interval  QRS Duration  QT Interval  QRS Axis

 Ideally, any type of electric contact could be used  However, wearable, safe and reliable electrodes are desired for the final product  Standard medical ECG electrodes will be used  Two electrodes to be placed on the patient’s chest  Third electrode will be internal to the circuit: Virtual right leg driven

 Analog Circuit  Instrumentation Amplifier: AD624  Appropriate for amplifying small signals  High Gain: Adjustable up to 10K  High Common Mode Rejection Ratio: 80 dB @ unity gain  Low Noise: 4 nV/√Hz @1 kHz  Photo coupler: PS2506  Electrically isolates the amplifier output signal from the rest of the device  System security measure  Band Pass Filter  Filters signals below 0.04 Hz to 150 Hz  Average heart signal is 50Hz to 70 Hz

 MSP430F149: Ultra low power 16 bit microcontroller  Responsible for all needed calculation of the ECG wave form  Provides the necessary synchronization of the system  Specs:  Supports clock rates up to 8MHz  60 KB of flash ROM  2 KB of RAM  12-bit ADC  2 DAC outputs, 2 UART (serial) ports, and 48 General Purpose IO (GPIO) pins

 KCWireFree KC21Bluetooth module  Class 2 module  Average power dissipation: 2.5mW  Small and power efficient  10m Range  Built in antenna

 Interface between the monitor and the patient  Holds emergency contacts, and alerts them in case of a heart attack  Development Platform: J2ME  JAVA as a development tool for Mobile devices  Development Tools  Eclipse, MicroEmulator, NetBeans

 Hardware components damaged  Unavailability of components  Data lost or damaged  Computer Crash  Loss of a Team Member

 Environmental Issues  Battery Disposal  Legal Issues  Harmful Electromagnetic Interference  Social Impacts  Mobile Phone Radiation  Might give a false sense of security to a patient which condition really needs a direct hospital care

 Monitor heart status anytime, anyplace  Portable device can be worn and is easy to carry  Provides patients with reliable heart monitoring  Mobile phone software displays heart status  Provides patients with prompt medical assistance  Send an emergency message if user has a heart attack or any emergency situation.  Improve the time of an emergency response
