Process S= SEARCH for possible hazards or risks I= IDENTIFY objects or conditions ahead that could interfere with your planned path of travel (look “12-15 seconds” ahead) P= PREDICT what the risk/hazard may do or how it will affect your path of driving D= DECIDE your safest plan of action E= EXECUTE your plan

11 Organ Donation Uniform Anatomical Gift Act -allows an individual to donate his/her organs upon death. –One organ and tissue donor can save more than 50 lives. No costs to the family for donation, and it will not affect funeral arrangements. When applying for a driver license the first time and when renewing, the MVC staff will ask if you would like to be an Organ Donor. 18 years or older can say yes, legally consenting to the donation of organ or tissue. Documented on your license.

12 6 point ID verification To be issued a NJ driver’s license a resident must prove Age - Identity - Legal presence in the U.S. A resident must present different documents to prove age, identity and legal status. Each document is worth a different point value; 1. One primary document (4 points): Birth certificate, driver’s license, US passport, US citizenship or US adoption papers, 2. One secondary document (1-3 points): Marriage/civil union certificate, Social Security card, bank statement, ATM card, health insurance card, NJ tax statement, high school/college ID with school records, FAA pilot license 3. Proof of address (must): Credit card bill, high school report card, rental contract or if under 18, MVC will accept Parent/Guardian Certification that verifies you are living with the parent/guardian at address. 4. Social Security card (must)

13 Minimum requirements for driving Eyesight 20/50 vision with or without corrective lenses. One eye only, the 20/50 rule and the applicant must have documentation signed by a licensed physician. Vision recheck, MVC may require a vision recheck of a New Jersey motorist. Written 80 %, (40 of the 50 questions must be correct answers) Health Health Questions and inform examiner of health problems. If the applicant has a health problem, a medical review may be necessary.

15 Vehicle Information New Jersey residents who buy a new or used vehicle must title and register the vehicle title and register the vehicle before driving the vehicle on public roads. TITLE A legal certificate of vehicle ownership issued by the MVC. It lists: current owner's name/address make, model & year of vehicle the first date sold vehicle mileage

16 New Jersey Vehicle Registration Application information includes: insurance 1.Name of the vehicle’s current insurance company name and the policy number. ownership 2.Show proof of vehicle ownership. (manufacturer’s certificate of origin, dealer’s certificate of sale or a title) sales tax 3.Show proof that the required sales tax has been paid. Note: In New Jersey a motorist must be at least 17 years old to register a vehicle.

17 NJ License Plates Specialty plates 2 matching license plates; one front plate one rear plate  Both plates must be clean and visible.  The rear plate must be lit so it is visible from 50 feet at night.

18 NJ Vehicle Inspection *All NEW gas-fueled vehicles must pass their first MVC inspection after five years. *All gas-fueled vehicles (over 5 years old), registered in NJ must pass inspections every two years. Purpose? 19 NJ Vehicle Insurance liability insuranceMotor vehicle liability insurance is mandatory in the State of New Jersey. –Proof that you will be held financially responsibility if you cause damage to property or injury a person must remain in the vehicleAn Insurance Identification Card must remain in the vehicle with the driver. –Shown; prior to inspection when involved in an accident when stopped by law enforcement for a traffic violation or roadside spot check. Driving with an uninsured vehicle can result in fines, community service, license/registration suspension and insurance surcharges.
