« The Devoted Friend » was written by Oscar Wilde. I consider this person one of the greatest and telanted writers all over the world. It’s my favourite. He had a tremendous talent for conveying moral things in such an interesting way - through fairy-tale characters.
In the first place, his tales are for adults because they carry a deep sense concerning our life, relationship between people, and true friendship. The tale has depth and significance in its many aspects.

2. When I was a student, I read a great many works including - «The Devoted Friend», - «The Happy Prince», - «The Nightingale and the Rose», - «The Selfish Giant», - «The Picture of Dorian Gray», - «A Woman of No Importance», - «An Ideal Husband»,  - «The Importance of Being Earnest».
I'm glad that “PROSVESHENIE” lets our pupils get acquainted with this author and his creative work.

3. Reading this fairy tale I was impressed how the author communicated the idea not just through specific elements like binary oppositions and symbolism but also in the overall development of the characters and control of the action of the story.
"The Devoted Friend" is an interesting fairy tale about two friends having different temperaments and different conceptions of friendship. The story is both tender and profound in its treatment of the ironical one-sided friendship between poor farmer Hans and the rich Miller.

4. Firstly, I use this knowledge in my professional career: I tell pupils about Oscar Wilde and his creative work. Secondly, Oscar Wilde’s ideas are useful to me in my personal life because this tale is about moral principles: friendship, devotion and betrayal.

There are two main characters in the tale: Hans and Hugh the Miller. It’s very easy for you to guess that everyone likes Little Hans. He is described by the author as a simple, innocent and kind-hearted man, such an image of an English commoner of that time. He is a hard working toiler, who lives in his small cottage and taking care of his garden.

6. I will recommend this fairy-tale to everyone because it deals with eternal problems. For our pupils it’s very helpful. It does them a lot of good.

7. The next book I’d like to read is «The Gold Bug» by Edgar Allan Poe
