1 Quality and Outcomes Framework Assessor Training Group-oriented skills in chairmanship, time management and team-working (during the review visit) Module S2

2 To provide an understanding of the skills required to: Manage and lead an assessment team Build team relationships Motivate team members Aims of the module

3 Establish the areas to be investigated during the visit to the contractor Contact the contractor to inform them of the assessment and to provide information on the needs of the assessors Check to see whether there are any issues that might affect the review visit Request to have access to a private room Preparing for the visit

4 Lead assessors need to be able to: Build relationships amongst team members Clearly communicate the purpose and specific objectives of the visit Motivate team members Listen, guide and control interactions (e.g. team meetings) Plan and organise actions Review progress Ensure that objectives are met within the timeframes available Skills of the lead assessor

5 Encourage the team to: Share personal information Share work likes/dont likes Share personal working styles Building team relationships

6 Explain purpose and objectives of visit Plan the visit Check for understanding of the QOF Agree individuals roles and responsibilities during the visit Ensure everyone understands each others roles Address concerns Communicating the purpose and objectives of the visit

7 Remember: you are GUESTS! Treat everyone you meet (staff and patients) with respect and courtesy – smile and say Good Morning! Avoid any non-verbal expressions that might indicate disapproval – stay neutral in tone and manner Setting the tone: the behaviours of assessors

8 Remain enthusiastic, encouraging and helpful Establish ground rules Allocate responsibilities according to strengths and preferences Be aware of the atmosphere of the team Allow time for social interaction Motivating the team

9 Clearly state the time available for the meeting Specify the topics that need to be discussed Keep the team focused on what they are there to achieve Ensure all members are included in the discussions and their viewpoints are listened to Summarise what has been discussed/agreed so that all members are clear on the way forward Chairing meetings

10 Check that the draft timetable is satisfactory If the host contractor wishes to show you their premises, ensure that time is built into the day for this Regularly review progress throughout the visit to ensure you are on target and that all the information required is being collected Meet with the team to establish where more information is required and who/how this information will be collected Planning, organising and reviewing progress

11 Meet to discuss strengths and areas for development Agree initial feedback to be given to the contractor Agree who will write the report Agree how the report will be circulated to the team for review and within what timeframes Concluding the visit
