3 integrate technology in the arts? 1.By integrating technology into art and music, it exposes the children to new and exciting ways to show artistic expression. 2.All media should have a place in the curriculum. 3.With the technology today, children are required to develop a new set of literacies that go beyond the computer literacy. 4.Art instruction teaches the communicative language of the new technology- sound, animation, music, drama, video, graphics, text, and voice. 5.The arts counterbalance the changes in the technological society today by emphasizing artistic awareness in the wave of technology.

4 Issues and Problems in Music Education –Many educators and administration are viewing music technology as a discrete discipline, separate from the “core” activities. Activities such as band, choir, dance, and general music that include technology are considered “alternative” learning environments. –The focus in music education in the Secondary level focus mostly on the Western European tradition such as Broadway and classical music, rather than the American tradition.

5 How Technology Is Integrated Into Music Education In addition to general purpose software (word processing, spreadsheet, etc.), two categories of computer based tools can serve the specific needs of music teachers: Instructional Software : comprises the many programs developed for particular use in a teaching situation. Several types of instruction including tutorial, drill and practice, and games. Music Production Software or Tool Programs : are those developed be the music instrument industry for professional use in composition, recording, and performance. Encompasses sequencing, digital audio editing, and music notation.

7 Making Music SEQUENCERS allow students to explore all the audio possibilities of music production. –A recording studio –Music playback & editing –Step & real-time recording NOTATION SOFTWARE gives the visual representation of music. –Transposing parts –Printing music –Recreating lost or missing parts –Drill program with ear training or music theory

8 General music courses have no formal performance agenda –singing, moving, playing & creating Help increase music appreciation & have a deeper understanding Explore all aspects of musical form, harmony & orchestration Students with little or no “formal” musical training can listen & manipulate

9 Build a Website Each student can contribute: Search the internet for relevant graphics Look for text or sound Integrate historical videos or DVD’s Student produced music Post website on school intranet for parents & students
