5. It begins..
The word Renaissance means ‘rebirth’, or ‘revival’ and it was the rebirth or revival of interest in the learnings of Ancient Greece and Rome
The learning of Greece and Rome had mostly been forgotten during the Middle Ages, but now interest was being peaked once again
The Renaissance had created a spirit of enquiry that spread across all areas of knowledge- some historians look at the Renaissance as the end of the Middle Ages and the beginning of our modern world

7. Why did it begin in Italy?
Ruins of Ancient Rome – Artists were inspired by the Ancient Ruins of Rome and began to study them.
City-States- Competed to produce works of art
Wealth of Italian Cities / Wealthy Patrons
Fall of Constantinople- (now Istanbul)Many scholars left and brought manuscripts with them
Invention of the Printing Press- Work could now spread more rapidly
