Phare SL9705.03 Gas appliance directive 90/396 EEC (GAD) covering: - cooking - space heating - hot water production - refrigeration - lighting - washing (including treating, i.e. water heating and drying) - fittings (as components or regarded as parts to an appliance) - forced air burners (can be marked separately)

Phare SL9705.03 excluding: - industrial uses (to come under machinery directive) e.g.:- factory baking ovens - gas engines - fuel cells - not gas carrying parts (e.g. thermostats) touching and overlap with: - Boiler efficiency directive (valid also for oil appliances) - Low voltage directive - Construction products directive (gas heaters are excluded there) Gas appliance directive 90/396 EEC (GAD)

Phare SL9705.03 Assembly of the member countries GADAC (BEDAC in parallel) - guidance sheets Notified Bodies (responsible for the EC type test and surveillance according to modules B to G, in some cases for verification by unit) Instruments to fulfil the GAD (1)

Phare SL9705.03 CEN - Sector Forum Gas (formerly PC 3) covering TCs for gas appliances and for gas transport, installation, valves, meters, regulators and having working groups on environment, CPD, PED etc. - TCs on appliances and accessories: 48, 49, 62, 106, 108, 109, 131, 179, 180, 181, 299; 238 on test gases, pressures and categories - TCs for gas not under the GAD: 234, 235, 236, 237, 282, 326 Nearly 40 harmonized standards under the GAD (amendments not included separately) missing still independent gas heaters (foreseen for 2000 Harmonized Standards or Essential Requirements? Instruments to fulfil the GAD (2)

Phare SL9705.03 Declaration of Conformity (see GAD) Study of EN 437 “Test gases, test pressures and appliance categories” (copied in the relevant gas appliance standards) now annex D open for associated countries (up to now Hungary participating) Study of CEN CR 1472 “General guidance for the marking of gas appliances “ - Marking on the label - Other markings - Distinction of direct country of distinction indirect country of distinction (two letter symbols as per EN ISO 3166-1, for Slovenia SI) Special obligations for the manufacturer

Phare SL9705.03 According to the evacuation of products of combustion A appliances without duct - cooking appliances - small instantaneous water heaters *) - small portable room heaters for LPG *) *) only as AAS appliances with surveillance of the air quality CR 1749 Classification of appliances (1)

Phare SL9705.03 B appliances with usual duct B 1 with draught diverter B 2 without draught diverter addition BS (e.g. B 11 B s ) indicates the gas surveillance C appliances sealed against the room C 1 balanced flue appliances the second digit indicates the way of evacuation C 11 natural draught C 12 fan-assisted, fan downstream of heat exchanger C 13 fan-assisted, fan upstream of heat exchanger CR 1749 Classification of appliances (2)

Phare SL9705.03 emissions - national legislation versus European law values in some appliance standards problem of worst case emissions versus weighted calculation (seasonal approach, partial loads) environmental movements (EHD at CEN) problem of accuracy in measurement (CR 1404) NO x problem
