2 Preview What You Need: A Mac computer Advantages: You don’t need to download anything. It comes standard on Macs. Interface pretty intuitive. Highlighting, typing, arrows, underlining all neatly on your lecture slides. Disadvantages: You cannot write on it with a stylus. 10 What You Need: You can use it on your laptop, tablet, or smartphone Advantages: Free! You can write and draw on your notes Notes taken on your laptop can be found on other devices and vice versa OCR – can recognize what you have hand-written Good for collecting and organizing Disadvantages: Only for Mac Harder to switch between tools than with Preview Accessories: A stylus, if you like handwriting notes

11 Papyrus What You Need: Tablets with active digitizers (Recommended: Samsung Galaxy Note) Pen has a magnet inside it. Detects pen tip while pen hovers. One side is an eraser. Pressure sensitive (harder pressure = bolding). Finger highlights. Advantages: Recognizes handwriting pretty well Infinite Find function! Learning curve not steep Disadvantages: Stylus that came with it was a little small for his hand $5.00 for converting to PDF capability

12 What You Need: iPad or iPhone Advantages: Automatically converts other files into PDFs Can organize files by class Great for if you are in lecture or like to watch podcasts Can review anywhere! Light Right-handed and lefthanded option (can tell where your palm is) Disadvantages: Free until you have to pay $5.99 at the app store No multifunctionality Cannot sync to other devices, but can visit the Cloud Accessories: Logitech Folio Jotpro Stylus

13 Galaxy Tablet Advantages: Comes in a variety of sizes (12.2”, 10” also good) Smart pad knows where your pen is before you touch the tablet Can take screenshot by touching the pen Plays multiple apps at once, switches smoothly between apps Expandable memory Comes with pen Disadvantages: $650 for the tablet (but still cheaper than the iPad!) Apps to Use with Galaxy Tablet: PDF Max Anki Droid (Good for flashcards)

14 Recommended Devices/ Accessories iPad mini and Samsung Galaxy Note can fit in your white coat pocket, which will have huge advantages during third year! Styli Jotpro by Adonit ($35 stylus that is super precise!) The Friendly Swede ($10-17 for a four pack, mesh-tip, super cute designs!) Cross – stylus, red and black ink, pencil Tablet Accessories Logitech Keyboard Folio Case for iPad Cleaning cloth, could use sunglasses cloth
