4 4 Techexpo - October 05, 2004 Language Technologies R&D Collaboration Mission To carry out and promote research, development and technology transfer activities in language technologies, as collaborations between academia, government and industry, in order to contribute to the advancement of knowledge, and to benefit the Canadian language industry.

5 5 Techexpo - October 05, 2004 To become: - the world leader in research and development in language technologies; - a national technology centre enabling Canadian companies to increase their competitiveness and to become leaders on the international scene; - a unique environment for the training of highly qualified personnel; - a key factor in the development of technology and industrial clusters in language technologies in Canada. 7 7 Techexpo - October 05, 2004 The not-for-profit LTRC being established will facilitate interaction between the R&D Collaboration and the ‘outside world’, and will bring in additional resources NRC UQO TBC XYZ LTRC R&D Collaboration < Financing < Influence > Promotion > Language Technologies Research Centre

8 8 Techexpo - October 05, 2004 Accomplishments 2003-2004 Language Industry Round Tables held across Canada : Moncton, Montréal, Gatineau, Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver (over 200 attendees) NRC sets up research group on UQO campus agreement in principle on the terms of a MOU for the NRC-UQO-TBC R&D Collaboration, including the commitment to help create the LTRC as a not-for-profit corporation establishment of the Management Committee and the Scientific Committee for the R&D Collaboration proposal submitted by UQO, to Canada Economic Development (CED) and the ministère du Développement économique et régional et de la Recherche (MDERR) du Québec, for an infrastructure investment plan for the LTRC : construction of a dedicated building including the necessary equipment infrastructure, on the UQO campus $15.2 million participation in the various committees of the Technology Roadmap led by AILIA Language Technologies Research Centre
