Cells: 109 Villages: 630 Altitude: 2100 m Rain: 1400 mm Temperature average:15o-16o C Population: Males: 189,312 Females: 208,559 Density: 480 hab/km2 Economy: Industries, Agriculture, livestock, small craft industries, mines Tourism: Lake Muhazi, Umurindi w’Intwari, Amayogi ya Burimbi, Ibigabiro n’imisezero by’abami i Rutare, Ubuvumo bwa Nyankokoma, Urugezi rwa Nyirantwari. Households: 86,217 of which 71% living in settlements

3 Introduction Gicumbi District is one of 30 Districts of Rwanda which has border with UGANDA. Its population makes cross border trades and export promotion through Gatuna Border like other borders (Rubavu, Rusizi….). The cross border trades are either formal or informal The cross border can be imported or exported; Some exported products can help the population to create jobs based on farm and off-farm. Gicumbi District has a target of creating 2,200 Jobs included farm and off- farm jobs refering EDPRS II.

7 District priorities and target for off-farm job creation
SECTOR PRIORITIES TARGETS OFF-FARM JOB CREATION 1.Hand Craft Promotion SMES of hand craft: Create 400 jobs per year 1. Sewing Increase of 100 jobs 2. Weeding Increase of 80 jobs 3. Construction (Maconnery) 4. Mechanics Increase of 60 jobs 5. Ceramic 2.Commerce Commerce (Factories,entreprise,….) Create 600 jobs per year Service Transport, saloon, cabinets,pharmacy,Electricity……..) Increase of jobs TOTAL 2,200 Jobs per year ( EDPRS II)

8 TVET PROGRAM Graduate from TVT Labor market Challenges
Key required interventions 3,404 Trained Not enough for the number of graduate TVT. At National level Gicumbi is 35% . 1.Lack of market and experience 2. Lack of capital to create jobs Help them to create jobs through hanga umurimo program 2. Facilitate the TVT Graduate to get loans. 3. Create at District level a large Agakiriro Model

9 DISTRICT Education Priorities
TARGET CHALLENGES REQUIRED INTERVENTIONS 1.Gross enrolement rate (GER) Increase the rate to 124%. Lack of parents knowledge . Mobilization of parents on the education strategy 2.Net enrolement rate(NER) Increase the rate to 98%. 3.Transition rate from primary to low secondary Increase the rate to 78%. Lack of means of family
