BENCHMARK DATA. DO THEY EXIST? First Level BENCHMARK (Reality): punctual external measurements directly comparable with RO measurements probably do not exist. Comparing RO measurements with the corresponding averages of measured atmospheric parameters: needed measure data not yet available. ROSA – ROSSA VALIDATION

ROSA – ROSSA VALIDATION RESOLUTIONS GPS LEO Cross-track Resolution Δz ~ 2 km in stratosphere ~ 0.5-0.1 km in the lower troposphere Δx ~ 2 km Along-track Resolution Δy ~ 600 km in stratosphere ~ 200 km in in the lower troposphere

Second Level BENCHMARK (Numerical Weather Re-analysis e/o radiosoundings, etc.): how good are such data to represent reality? Third Level BENCHMARK (OUTPUT of similar SOFTWAREs): but, are these output a good representation of reality? ROSA – ROSSA VALIDATION Anyway, VALIDATION is a statistical activity
