Blood Cells & Blood Vessel Histology Blood Cells: Page 324 Blood Vessel Histology: Page 284

Blood Cell Histology I will use the diagrams similar to the ones on page 324 to test you on blood cells. Be able to identify: –Erythrocytes (red blood cells) –Neutrophil –Lymphocyte –Monocyte –Eosinophil –Basophil

Neutrophils – odd shaped, lobed nucleus

Lymphocytes Small (about same size as the RBC’s) with a round nucleus that fills up most of the cell

Monocytes Big (they’re the biggest!) with a fat-U nucleus

Eosinophils Cytoplasm is more pinkish in color, VERY granular, sometimes have a “snowman” nucleus

Basophils Cytoplasm is more blue-ish in color, VERY granular

Name this blood cell.

Monocyte

Name this blood cell.

Basophil If you are getting them confused with lymphocytes, note the SIZE. Basophils are LARGER than RBC’s whereas lymphocytes are the same size as RBC’s.

Name this blood cell.

Eosinophil

Name these blood cells.

Neutrophils

Name this blood cell.

Lymphocyte

Blood Vessel Histology Turn to page 284 in your lab book

Intro to Blood Vessels

ARTERY Tunica ExternaTunica Media Tunica Interna: too thin to be seen, but is next to the lumen

VEIN Tunica Externa Tunica Media Tunica Interna: too thin to be seen, but is next to the lumen

Vasa Vasorum Vessels of the Vessels: supplies the walls of blood vessels with blood. Found in the tunica externa of arteries and veins.
