1 World War II Time Line By: Tiffany Harris and Kelsie Thompson, Matt Haney

2 U.S involvement in WWII 1939- Although President Roosevelt has declared American neutrality in the war in Europe, a Neutrality Act is signed that allows the US to send arms and other aid to Britain and France. January 30- Hitler threaten Jews during Reichstag speech. March 15/16- Nazis take Czechoslovakia. March 28- Spanish Civil war ends. September 1- Germany invades Poland. September 3- Great Britain and France declare war on Germany. September 17- The Soviet Union invades Poland.

3 United States enter WWII December 7 th 1941- The U.S enters the war after Japan attacks Pearl Harbor December 11, 1941 declared war on U.S. May 7, 1945- WWII ended in Europe.

4 War with Germany 1941-In response to Germany and Italy's declaration of war, the US reciprocates and declares war on both Germany and Italy. Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua also declare war on Germany and Italy. May- The Germans sweep through the Low Countries and invade France, taking everybody by surprise, which is the key ingredient of their blitzkrieg. June 14- The Germans enter Paris, France. June 18- Charles de Gaulle gave his The Flame of the French Resistance BBC radio address.

5 War with Germany 1942-Three German spies in New York get a total of 117 years imprisonment. 1942-Two German U-boats land teams of saboteurs on Long Island and near Jacksonville, Florida. However, all are captured with days and six are executed after a trial.

6 War with Germany 1940-President Roosevelt signs the 'Two Ocean Navy Expansion Act'. This was the first step in preparing America for war against either Germany or Japan, or both.

7 U.S involvement in WWII June 1941-President Roosevelt announces a shift from neutrality to "non-belligerency," while condemning Germany and Italy and promising material aid to both Britain and France

8 War with Germany 1941-In Washington, the US and British military leaders begin secret staff talks regarding co- ordination of a common war policy. After 2 months and 14 separate meetings, the US and British staff conference ends with a basic framework for US-British co-operation should the USA be drawn in to the war. Most importantly an agreement was made that Germany should be defeated first against Germany

9 War with Germany German Navy Chief, Admiral Raeder warns that US convoying of British war supplies would be considered an act of war. As a result of U652's attack on the US destroyer Greer, President Roosevelt warns German and Italian vessels that from now on, if they enter the Pan-American security zone, they do so at there own risk.

10 WWII December 7, 1941- U.S. enters WWII after being bombed by Japan in Pearl Harbor. December 8, 1941- U.S. and Great Britain declared war on Japan. December 11, 1941- Hitler declared war on U.S. January 13, 1942- Germans begin a U-boat offensive along east coast of US. January 26, 1942- First American forces arrive in Great Britain. January 27, 1943- First bombing raid by Americans on Germany (at Wilhelmshaven). February 2, 1943- Germans surrender at Stalingrad in the first big defeat of Hitler's armies. July 22, 1943- Americans capture Palermo, Sicily. January 6, 1944 - Soviet troops advance into Poland. January 17, 1944 - First attack toward Cassino, Italy. June 6, 1944- D-Day landings on the northern coast of France

11 WWII January 22, 1944 - Allies land at Anzio in Italy. January 27, 1944 - Leningrad relieved after a 900-day siege. February 15-18 - Allies bomb the monastery at Monte Cassino. February 16, 1944 - Germans counter-attack against the Anzio beachhead. March 4, 1944 - Soviet troops begin an offensive on the Belorussian front; First major daylight bombing raid on Berlin by the Allies. March 15, 1944 - Second Allied attempt to capture Monte Cassino begins. March 18, 1944- British drop 3000 tons of bombs during an air raid on Hamburg, Germany. April 8, 1944 - Soviet troops begin an offensive to liberate Crimea. May 9, 1944 - Soviet troops recapture Sevastopol.

12 WWII May 11, 1944 - Allies attack the Gustav Line south of Rome. May 12, 1944 - Germans surrender in the Crimea. May 15, 1944 - Germans withdraw to the Adolf Hitler Line. May 25, 1944 - Germans retreat from Anzio. May 7, 1945- WWII ended in Europe.
