2 About us – Mission, Vision & Values The IARS International Institute is a user-led and user-focused organisation with a charitable mission to give everyone a chance to forge a safer, fairer and more inclusive society. We achieve our Mission by producing evidence-based solutions to current social problems, sharing best practice, and by supporting young people and the community to shape decision-making from the bottom-up. This stems from our Vision of being a part of “A society in which everyone is given a chance to actively participate in social problem solving”. The IARS International Institute has stayed true to its founding Values and been striving to achieve its Mission and Vision, officially for the past 10 Years. IARS was founded upon the principles of; user & civic participation; restorative justice & dialogue; and individual empowerment & responsibility

3 Our Work Main Activities: Community- led Action Research Publishing Project Design & Evaluation Campaigning Training Policy Development We carry out our work in 3 main strands: Justice Equalities Youth The 3 strands naturally give rise to overlaps in our work, this adds an element of fluidity into our projects and allows our coordinators to work together and be dynamic. For example, Youth Justice, Equality in Justice & Youth Inequalities

5 Care 2 Work Barriers Understood: Young BAME carers in Europe – O1 E-book in the languages of all partners. It will be based on IARS ’construction of the evidence-base for the practical results of the project. Analysis of key concepts and cross country comparison. Theoretical development and review of existing best practices in the project area. It will include findings from surveys and comparative analyses, evidence gathering and studies of real life cases that will be carried out by the strategic partnership. E-Books are: Easy to access Easy to promote Becoming more preferable than paper copies Easy to produce in multiple languages Cost effective

6 Care 2 Work Activity: Phase 1 Reporting – O1 A1 Following a scoping exercise based on literature review and fieldwork for new data through current practices, the phase 1 report will publish key concepts in the project area, identify best and innovative practices in all participating countries and set the theoretical framework for the practical results of the project. The report will include chapters written by the partners in their own languages and will be the first pan European report on innovative practices and training programmes in the project area. Each partner will produce a country specific report that will feed into the overall report as a chapter. It will be written in their native language and focus on current and emerging innovative and best practices in the project area. The output will be led by IARS who will edit the book and publish it making it available online for wider circulation and learning across Europe.

7 Care 2 Work Activity: Constructing the Evidence Base IARSPartnersDelivery Date Defining the Research Question Will propose a Research Question to partners. Conceptualising the Shortfalls, and Best Practices, of personal development support services for BAME young cares in the UK, Sweden, Italy and Greece : How can we tear down the barriers to their access to further training, education and employment? Partners will feedback and an agreement will be reached on the appropriateness of the Research Question Kick off Meeting 30 th June 2015 Literature Review Critical and in depth evaluation of previous research in relation to young carers to allow us to expands upon the reasons behind our Research Question. Each Partner will conduct their own country specific literature review. July 2015 – August 2015 Surveys Create 2 Surveys for professionals and for young people. Define sample size Each Partner will conduct their own country specific surveys August 2015 – September 2015 Interviews Conduct Interviews with 2 groups - BAME young carers and with professionals Each Partner will conduct their own country specific interviews (targets to be agreed) Focus Group Create a youth-led focus group with young carers Each Partner will conduct their own country specific focus groups (targets to be agreed) Draft of the Report Will include an analysis of the above Field Work. Partners will contribute their own reports in the form of a chapter – Deadline for submission to IARS – November 2015 December 2015
