2.  Children need to feel a sense of physical and psychological security in order to feel safe in an environment. Establishing rules and routines enables students to feel secure in a classroom environment where they know what’s expected of them.

3.  Interaction between students is determined by the arrangement in the classroom. Arranging desks in rows promotes individualized work amongst students.

5.  The physical design of the classroom should accommodate the daily tasks. The large “u” shaped table is a design that enables the teacher to work with a small group of students. They do this daily during their centers.

6.  The classroom should be aesthetically pleasing to the teacher and students. Colorful, informational posters and children’s artwork are displayed on every wall of the classroom.

7.  The classroom should promote student growth and cognitive development. Having leveled reading materials allows students to read at their own comfortable level and grow at their own pace.
