ASIAES Project Overview Satellite Image Network for Natural Hazard Management in ASEAN+3 region Pakorn Apaphant Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency GISTDA, Thailand

WGISS Subgroup meetings and Plenary #21, Budapest Hungary, May 8-12, 2006 Background Originally endorsed in the 3rd ASEAN Economics Minister Meeting in 2001 Budget proposal was not approved Four meetings during the last five years to discussed with ASEAN+3 countries Budget finally allocated in the 2006 fiscal year for project implementation

WGISS Subgroup meetings and Plenary #21, Budapest Hungary, May 8-12, 2006 Project Description Coordination of space agencies in ASEAN+3 region in sharing information of satellite image products and its usages for environment study and natural hazard A distributed system of servers containing metadata of available ASIAES information Make use of readily available Internet technology International standard will be applied to facilitate query and consistent presentation across multiple participating sites

WGISS Subgroup meetings and Plenary #21, Budapest Hungary, May 8-12, 2006 Scope of Work (Phase I) Develop a Satellite Image Network system for Natural Disaster Management System interfacing among participating agencies System interfacing with related clearing houses Promote its usages

WGISS Subgroup meetings and Plenary #21, Budapest Hungary, May 8-12, 2006 Expected Outcome A Clearing House system featuring exchange of remote sensing data (especially in environmental problems, natural hazard management applications.), tools, knowledge and experience. Better access for the public and worldwide users to the ASEAN+3 region's satellite imageries and other remote sensing information.

WGISS Subgroup meetings and Plenary #21, Budapest Hungary, May 8-12, 2006 Expected Outcome –cont. System Capabilities Automated Metadata/Information Updating service Searching service Region of Interest via Web Map Service Catalogue/Keywords Search Data Viewing Data Upload/download service Linkages for ordering service etc.

WGISS Subgroup meetings and Plenary #21, Budapest Hungary, May 8-12, 2006 Data content Related to natural hazards and environmental events Data Layers may include images covering areas of Earthquake; active volcano; fire; flood; landslide; deforestation; oil spill; air, soil and water pollution, etc. Types of data to be in the ASIAES system Browsing images, value added data, metadata, documents, applications and tools Satellite image archives Expected Outcome –cont.

WGISS Subgroup meetings and Plenary #21, Budapest Hungary, May 8-12, 2006 ASIAES participating sites are encouraged to Provide hypertext linkages within their metadata entries that enable users to directly download the digital data set If the data are too large to be made available through the Internet or the data products are made available for sale, linkage to an order form can be provided in lieu of a data set Metadata registration and regularly updated Expected Contribution

WGISS Subgroup meetings and Plenary #21, Budapest Hungary, May 8-12, 2006 Data Registration Complete metadata for service Send metadata.xml to main Data Server Manually: E-mail/CD Semi-Automatic interface to transfer the XML file between Center and Member (FTP) Automatic Interface a Processor S/W periodically to detect the new XML file uploaded from the Member System Append the new XML file to the Center systems Database

WGISS Subgroup meetings and Plenary #21, Budapest Hungary, May 8-12, 2006 Accuracy and Consistency Pre-defined processing steps for data input QA/QC for spatial/attribute accuracy Process for consistent projection/datum Standardize symbols Develop ISO 19115 compliant metadata Store data in a managed environment

WGISS Subgroup meetings and Plenary #21, Budapest Hungary, May 8-12, 2006 A General user will access, search and request the image data in the Center system. Then the Center system will hand over the users request to the Member system automatically. The Member system will give the image data to the user by FTP, DVD,.. The Member system will report the result (log) of it to the Center system automatically. The Center system has to close the users request. Interface Scenario
