A collection of input and output devices connected to a computing device which will perform either general tasks or specific tasks. Anything that is connected to or runs on a computer is part of the computer system!

General computer systems – These are systems which we are used to. We can play games, do work, chat with friends or surf the web! Specific computer systems – These are systems which will only perform a single task. For example a airplane computer system or a shops till.

A Micro-processor is a multipurpose chip which can sequences of instructions known as software The bulk of the processor is padding and connections. The actually chip (known as the die) is the small square in the centre.

What is the purpose of a micro-processor It can run software (like a mobile phone application) Devices which use a micro-processor normally need to perform lots of instructions in order to do a single task. For example a sky+ box would need to be able to schedule recordings. This would be done by the micro-processor.

Make a list of all of the devices at home which contain a micro-processor. Next to each device state what the software on the device does!!
