6 BA Majors, Minors and Electives A major refers to 36 units of study (8 topics) in one area comprising 9 units (2 topics) of first level topics and 27 units (6 topics) of upper level topics A minor refers to 22.5 units of study in another area comprising 5 topics BA electives are used to broaden and build flexibility into study plans

18 Lutheran Strand Students undertaking the Lutheran Strand enrol in several units of study offered through Australian Lutheran College (ALC) Students will seek eligibility and approval for enrolment from Strand Coordinator, Ruth Zimmermann at ruth.zimmermann@alc.edu.au ruth.zimmermann@alc.edu.au Students take their final practicum in a Lutheran school, supervised by ALC staff Completion of the Lutheran Strand prepares you for teaching in Lutheran, state and private systems

23 Student Study Workload Assumes a full-time load of 36 hours per week to include: –on-campus attendance for weekly lectures –on-campus attendance for workshops or tutorials –completion of assigned readings –completion of assignments Assumes availability 5 days per week –Time-tables alter from semester to semester and year to year Assumes full-time attendance in schools for 4 week block practicum in 3 rd year and 6 week block practicum in final year A few topics are held as intensives in semester breaks and some final year topics start earlier than the rest of the university

24 Enrolment 5 step process Don’t forget to both enrol in topics and register in classes –Register in classes from Feb Need help? –Enrolment Support Centre in Central Library –Submit a help request by following steps on Page 13

25 Get Off to a Good Start Orientation Week 20 – 24 February Wednesday 22 February 12.00noon –Transition into First Year Education session –Followed by drop in counselling to check enrolments
