2 Political  Cortes’s exploits triggered visit to Latin America from Portugal  Started with royal centralization, but received no help until later  Portugal crown did not seem Brazil that intriguing and always pushed them to the side

3 Social  Initially occupied by Tupian natives and they always focused on warfare  Being similar to Spain, used slaves  The new villagers were very manipulative in getting the locals

4 Economic  Used the natives economy to benefit the portuguese economy there.  Relied on cheap labor  Started the sugar age which drew attention from crown
