Is the process by which an individuals existing skills and knowledge are assessed and credited towards the achievement of units of competency

A briefing by your TAFE assessor on the process and requirements, and a preliminary conversation with your TAFE assessor about your background, job role, experience, skills and knowledge, life experiences and activities and identify initial evidence. Self assessment – you gather evidence based on the briefing. Evidence may include (but is not limited to) job description, resume, workplace training, workshops, supervisor’s letter of support, responses to oral questions, an assessment assignment, skill demonstration, workplace samples, other qualifications. Planning interview – your TAFE assessor checks evidence (could be workplace based) and works with you to develop a plan for filling gaps (either generating further evidence, or recommendations for training).

Assessment interview – your TAFE assessor interviews you to address underpinning knowledge or skills or other gaps for final sign off. RPL granted, recorded and qualification / statement of attainment issued. Evaluation – your TAFE assessor will debrief you and you will have the opportunity to give feedback on the process.
