Chapter 1 Quick-write After last night’s reading, think of “melting pot” and “salad bowl/American mosaic”. Define in your own words what each are in relation to America’s population. After analyzing both these terms which one would you most think best represents the country in which we live in?

Diversity: Salad Bowl Theory- much like a salad, there are many different elements or types of people, but when put together they still hold their differences, but they go well together to make the United States. How are we like a salad bowl? Diversity—Differences What makes you different or special?

Diversity: Melting Pot Theory- reflects the idea that people from all over the world came to the United States and melted into American society, giving up the heritage of their native lands. How are we like a melting pot? How is this statement incorrect?

Immigrations Immigrants- people who move from one country to make their homes in another.
