5 WRDC Strategic PlanWRDC Strategic Plan 1.Enhance Human Capacity through People-Based Rural Development Traditional sources of rural employment (Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Manufacturing) have been declining Many rural workers lack the education and skills necessary for high quality employment in global economy There is great need for: –Addressing the adult education and workforce training challenges, especially among underserved populations –Improving schools and educational opportunities in rural areas –Strengthening leadership-training programs for youth and adults –Increasing access to affordable E-Commerce training WRDC – Hosted by Utah State University and Utah State University Extension Presented at WEDA/WRPLC Meeting – California – April 8, 2010

Each of the four Centers link the research and extension capacity of regional land-grant universities with local decision-makers to address a wide range of rural development issues. The WRDC also receives substantial support from Utah State University, Utah State University Extension and the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station.
