1 Community challenge Suggested Sequence 2,3 (Integrate with skills audit for PDP) Lesson Objective To outline what is meant by Aims , Objectives and Success Criteria. To identify own strengths and weaknesses using a skills audit. 5 Aims Aims are clear goals you want to achieve
Objectives are steps on the way to achieving aims Success Criteria is how you will judge if your project is successful or not

6 DISCUSS IN YOUR GROUPS…
What do you think the aim was? What steps did you take to try and achieve it? How did you know if you were successful or not? What helped you win/would you do differently next time in order to win?

7 Quick Activity…. What was the aim of this activity?
The aim was to build the highest tower What objectives did you set? To make sure the tower was stable To experiment with different strategies To assign people tasks To ensure your area was not rocked To start with 1 piece, then use a second To not waste resources How did you know if you were successful? 11 Over to you: Write down 1 aim that you have.
Write down 1 objective you could undertake which will help you achieve it Write down the success criteria you would use to see if you achieved it or not? Be prepared to share with the class.

12 Community Challenge What problems did you identify in your local community? Decide on ONE problem What aim could you set to help overcome this problem? What objectives could you consider to help you achieve this aim? What success criteria will you use to recognise you have achieved this aim?

14 Creating SMART goals Specific
Is your goal well-defined? Avoid setting unclear or vague objectives; be as precise as possible. Instead of: “To listen more” Make it specific: “To use the next lesson as an opportunity to practise listening behaviours and to reinforce this by writing a detailed minute of the meeting”

15 Creating SMART goals Measurable
Be clear how you will recognise when you have achieved your goal. Using numbers, dates and times is one way to represent clear objectives. Instead of: “To find out about South Africa” Make it measurable: “To use the internet make notes on the economy, and politics of South Africa.

16 Creating SMART goals Attainable
Setting yourself unrealistic goals will only end in disappointment. Make your goals challenging, but attainable. Instead of: “Learn German by Christmas” Make it attainable: “Register with a language school and attend classes to learn German on a weekly basis for the next 12 months. Then review progress and set new goals”

Ensure that any development actions that you plan are relevant to what you are doing

19 Developing a PDP Personal Development Plan

20 What is a PDP? Personal Development Plans are written by individuals to identify how they can improve their chance of success. They are referred to over time. Targets can be based on previous work, such as your skills audit, and also the skills you have identified that you need to succeed. They must use SMART goals.

To manage my time effectively Write lists of what I need to achieve, with deadlines. Write down how long I think each task will take. Plan in time to complete these tasks.
