Rules of Capitalization
1. DO NOT capitalize the names of school subjects, except the names of language classes or course names that contain a number. 2. Capitalize geographical names. (Including “Specific Regions” i.e. “The West”)

3. DO NOT capitalize the names of seasons, unless it is used in the name of a special event. (“Fall Foliage Festival”)

4. Capitalize proper nouns, both people and places. (Thomas Jefferson) (Belleview Avenue) DO NOT capitalize: short prepositions (in, on, with), articles (a, and, the), coordinating conjunctions (and, but, for) or the infinitive “to”. (Mary, Queen of Scots)

5. Capitalize the names of businesses. 6. Capitalize the first word in a quotation. (“Will you go too?” or John said, “Will you go too?”) DO NOT capitalize the second part of a “split” quotation. (“I can not go,” Mary said, “until my work is finished.”)
