3 Regular & thorough assessment of tenure-track faculty is an important step in professional development of faculty members…. Annual retention review…. Process designed to ensure that tenure-track faculty member receives clear & timely feedback from tenured faculty & department head about his or her contribution to the department, development & prospects for advancement Enhanced Retention Review (ERR)…. Each tenure-track faculty member undergoes an ERR in academic year near midpoint in his or her probationary period….dossier viewed by department faculty & department head, UTIA P&T Comm, dean(s) & chancellor with opportunity for all to comment on progress towards tenure UTIA P&T Workshop 2015

4 Tenure-track faculty undergo ERR in academic year following midpoint of probationary period (typically 3 rd or 4 th yr of employment) UTIA….tenure-track faculty hired prior to July 1 should prepare & submit dossier for ERR in October of 3 rd year of employment. Faculty hired after July 1 - ERR in October of 4 th year of employment….  Employment begins on March 1, 2012….dossier for ERR submitted in October, 2014  Employment begins on September 1, 2012….dossier for submitted in October, 2015  DH’s can make exceptions to this policy after consultation with faculty member & appropriate deans  Tenure-track faculty with probationary period < 4 yr may request that tenured faculty provide ERR in any one year of probationary period up to (but not including) faculty member’s year of tenure consideration UTIA P&T Workshop 2015

5  Faculty member with DH guidance prepares ERR dossier on cumulative performance….progress in satisfying requirements for tenure in teaching, research/ scholarship/creative activity & service  Dossier should contain:  Faculty Annual Reports submitted to DH  Teaching materials  Teaching evaluations & annual retention reports compiled during faculty member’s probationary period  Copies of research/scholarship/creative activity published or otherwise completed during probationary period  Evidence of research/scholarship/creative activity work in progress  Summary of service to department, college, University & other constituencies  Any other materials that DH requests or faculty member desires to make available to tenured faculty UTIA P&T Workshop 2015

6  Provide information on teaching, research, & service  A ssembly of Dossier, refer to MFE  Format….see Appendix B in MFE  CV  Supporting materials (student evaluations, scholarship examples)  Formatting document to UTIA specifications….  Summary in each section of the dossier helpful. For example: between C. and C1., number of referred journal articles, books, book chapters, published abstracts & funding totals since starting at UT or since the last promotion  Grant totals, actual amount of funding received by candidate & candidate’s role with respect to each grant or contract should be developed  Verify contents through review & sign statement UTIA P&T Workshop 2015

7  Review dossier for completeness & formatting  Provide teaching evaluation summary & peer review  Provide previous annual evaluation/ retention reports UTIA P&T Workshop 2015
