1 Course Pretest Today you will be taking a pretest for our course. The same test will be given to you again shortly before midterms and again at the end of the school year. Please try your best. After you have completed your test please had in the scan-tron and proceed to my teacher page. On my teacher page you will find a PowerPoint titled: Getting to know your Mac. Please read through this PowerPoint and explore some of the program our macs offer.

2 Using the Mac TV & Film I, II, III

3 Powering on & Logging in To power on your Mac, press the button on the bottom left of the machine located in the back. To log in use the username and login given to you by your teacher.

4 The Desktop 1.Apple menu () - Access Software Update, System Preferences, Sleep, Shut Down, and more. 2.Application menu - Contains menus for the application you're currently using. 3.Menu bar - Contains the Apple menu, active application menu, status menus, menu bar extras, Spotlight icon, and Notification Center icon (OS X Mountain Lion). 4.Status menu - Shows the date and time, status of your computer, or gives you quick access to certain features 5.Spotlight icon - Click it to bring up the Spotlight search field, where you can search for anything on your Mac. 6.Notification Center icon – 7.Desktop - This is where your applications' windows will appear. 8.The Dock - Quick access to your most frequently used applications, folders, and files. With a single click the application, folder, or file opens.

5 Preferences 1.Click the desktop. 2.Choose Finder > Preferences, then click General. 3.In the "Show these items on the desktop" section, select all items: 1.Hard disks 2.External disks 3.CDs, DVDs, & iPod’s 4.Connected servers
