3 Mock Exams

4  English mock exams were given on January 7 (total of 3 hours)  All AP English teachers are expected to provide 3 additional hours of tutoring with their students to finish out the 6 hours for the January 7 prep session  AP English teachers are to turn in their sign in sheets & agendas for tutoring sessions to the English content directors in order to be eligible for their Saturday Study Session stipend for January 7  Science & Math mock exams should be scheduled during AHSGE administration  Those dates should be reported on the form sent to you by T. Dunn last week Mock Exams

5  AP Biology—April 2  AP Chemistry—April 3  AP Physics & Environmental Science—April 4  AP Calculus—April 10  AP Statistics—April 12 Mock Exam Reading for Science & Math

6  School/District is responsible for substitutes for the teachers to attend  A+ College Ready will pay teachers’ mileage  A+ College Ready will pay for overnight lodging the night prior to the reading for teachers traveling 60 miles or more one way  For teachers who must stay overnight, A+ College Ready will pay for dinner and breakfast  A+ College Ready will provide lunch for all teachers the day of the reading AP Mock Reading Logistical Details

7 Enrollment for Fall, 2012

8  USE DATA TO HELP GET STUDENTS INTO RIGOROUS COURSES RATHER THAN USING DATA TO KEEP STUDENTS OUT OF RIGOROUS COURSES  EXPLORE data should be used to appropriately place 9 th grade students into pre-AP courses  PLAN data should be used to appropriately place 11 th (and 12 th ) grade students into AP classes  All schools should make a diligent effort to educate parents about the benefits of Advanced Placement and other rigorous courses  You are welcome to use the A+ College Ready parent meeting presentation and/or invite one of our staff members to come speak with your parents A+ College Ready expects that enrollment in AP classes will grow around 15% per year

9  Please let A+ College Ready know if you are planning to offer additional AP courses in the 2012 – 2013 school year  Teachers who will teach these new courses should be registered for APSI Offering New AP MSE Classes, Fall 2012

10 Online Course Offerings Available to A+ CR Schools, Fall 2012

11  Your students can register for these courses via ACCESS  A+ College Ready is working with ACCESS to provide these courses with an A+ College Ready trained teacher  First priority for enrollment will be for A+ CR students  Courses are AP Physics B, AP Computer Science, and AP Statistics  A+ College Ready will pay a portion of the exam fee for these students and they will be eligible for the $100/qs  Their exam scores will count toward the school goal If you do not offer the following courses at your school...

12 2012 AP Exams

13  March 30 is the priority deadline for ordering AP Exams from the College Board  Once you create your order, you (or your district or school financial person) can create a Purchase Order to the College Board and request your money for exams from the State AP Grant Award  You will be receiving an email from T. Dunn asking you to report the current enrollment of each of your classes and the number of exams that you order for each class Logistical Information

14  You have received an email with instructions for students who are eligible to retake certain courses  Highly motivated AP Biology or AP Chemistry students are eligible to take the AP Environmental Science exam without taking the course  In order for A+ College Ready to contribute to the exam fee for these students they must agree to and participate in 6 hours of tutoring for the exam  Each teacher who provide the tutoring MUST have a separate contract for this work in order for the teacher & the student to be eligible for the $100/qs  If these conditions are met, A+ College Ready will contribute $50/exam toward each of these students’ exams Exam Retakes or AP Environmental Science Exams for students who have not taken the course

15  It is IMPERATIVE that AP exams be administered by an individual who clearly understands how the AP exam is to be given, i.e. amount of time on each section, whether or not calculators are allowed, etc.  There should be NO announcements or interruptions during the AP examination  It is the responsibility of the AP coordinator to make certain that all AP exams are administered properly. The AP Coordinator does not have to administer each exam but should go over the testing guidelines with each test administrator. Administration of AP Exams

16 Pre-AP Course Roll-Outs

17  Pre-AP English 9  Pre-AP Biology  Pre-AP Algebra I  Teams including A+ CR content directors, ARI, AMSTI, LTF, and AP and pre-AP teachers from throughout the state have developed these annotated scope & sequences and teachers will be trained on their usage  A+ College Ready staff will be doing regional trainings on:  May 16—Huntsville  May 17—Montgomery  May 18--Birmingham  We will be asking EACH of you to send your pre-AP English 9, pre-AP biology and pre-AP Algebra I (even if it is a middle school teacher) to the training on one of these dates  A+ College Ready will reimburse each participating school $70 per teacher for substitute pay and will pay teachers’ mileage Pre-AP Courses Available for Fall, 2012

18 Summer Training

19  Auburn—June 18 – 21  Calculus AB, Computer Science, English Language, English Literature, Biology, Physics B, and Chemistry  Alabama—July 9 – 12  AP Calculus, AP Statistics  Alabama—July 16 – 19  AP Calculus, AP Statistics (A+ CR teachers only), English Language (full), English Literature (full) Register on our website www.apluscollegeready.orgwww.apluscollegeready.org Advanced Placement Summer Institute

20  Cohorts I and II & IMF—Only selected teachers attend APSI; A+ College Ready pays both registration & expenses (up to $550)  Cohort III—All teachers expected to attend; Registration is paid from State AP Grant Award; A+ College Ready pays expenses (up to $550)  Cohort IV non APIP—All teachers expected to attend; Registration is paid from State AP Grant Award; school/district pays expenses  Cohort IV, APIP—All teachers expected to attend; Registration & travel paid from APIP Grant Award and handled through the district APSI Logistical Information

21  Schools/districts in Cohorts III and IV should create a purchase order for the University of Alabama and/or Auburn University for the teachers attending training at those sites.  You may use this PO as a back up to request money from the state AP Grant award or the APIP grant award  T. Dunn or Elizabeth Goodwyn will send a list of teachers registered at each university to each AP coordinator by the end of March APSI Logistical Information

22  Year 1—week of July 30 – August 3, Birmingham area to be determined  Year 2—week of July 23 – July 27, Hewitt Trussville High School  Year 3—week of July 23 – July 27, Gadsden City High School  Registration will be on our website by April 1, 2012 Laying the Foundation Training

23  Cohorts I and II—have completed 3 years of LTF training; no funding allocated  Cohort III & IV non APIP--$4,500 (Cohort III) and $5,000 (Cohort IV) awarded in State AP Grant award for each school. A+ College Ready will invoice schools/districts for this amount in early April. This covers the registration fee for 7 pre-AP teachers plus any AP teacher who wishes to attend  Cohort IV APIP—A+ College Ready has contracted with SDE to provide LTF training on your behalf  IMF—A+ College Ready to provide LTF training on your behalf LTF Logistical Information

24  Cohort III and IV non APIP and IMF—A+ College Ready will reimburse teachers directly for up to $300 of travel expenses  Cohort IV APIP—Districts will reimburse teachers for travel expenses with money from the APIP grant  If schools have new teachers they should attend Year 1 training LTF Logistical Information

26  Courses are free to all A+ College Ready students enrolled in the particular course in the fall  Students are responsible for their own transportation Student Summer Enrichment Logistics

27 Equipment Purchases

28  A+ CR will ask each school to create its equipment purchase list as soon as the AP exams are finished  An updated inventory for AP classrooms and suggested purchases will be sent to all schools in early May  Schools will be asked to send A+ College Ready their list of needed equipment/materials/supplies to be approved before school is out  Equipment/materials/supplies should be ordered during the summer months to be available for classrooms in the fall  New equipment will be needed for new AP Biology labs Equipment Purchases

29  Cohort I--$5,000 and $25/enrolled student (based on Fall, 2012 enrollment) from A+ CR  Cohorts II & III--$10,000 ($5,000 from State AP Grant Award & $5,000 for A+CR) and $25/enrolled student  Cohort IV (all schools)--$10,000 from State AP Grant Award  IMF--$10,000 from A+ College Ready Equipment Allocations
