2 Background to Programme Programme Aims Support for communities to use the Games as a catalyst for building on their work to develop activities and projects that: involve local people increase local community action support the achievement of better health and social outcomes

3 Programme Activities National Programme supporting local groups and partnerships to demonstrate the contribution of existing activity to local and national outcomes increasing the profile of local organisations’ activities through a local Games Legacy event and media strategy supporting local groups and partnerships to make stronger links with local strategic decision makers, by showcasing their work through the Games Legacy programme supporting the creation or development of local partnerships

4 Programme Activities - Dundee January 2012 Multi-agency workshops – ‘conversations’ around CWG legacy March 2012 Follow-up multi-agency workshops exploring key priorities and community engagement outcomes

5 Key Local Priorities Access and Inclusion o Addressing barriers o Supporting participation of excluded groups o Connect with existing groups (and existing events/activities) Communication, Consultation & Involvement o Identifying key networkers o Talking to people (and groups) o Developing a variety of methods/activities to consult and involve people

6 Examples of community engagement outcomes - Dundee  More people are actively involved in CWG Legacy activity  All sections of the community feel their contribution is valued/included  There is improved partnership/collaborative working around CWG legacy  Barriers to involvement in health/sports activities are identified and overcome

7 Programme Activities - Dundee April 2012 and on-going Training and support in the use of community engagement planning software (VOiCE) Support for development of local community engagement plans around CWG legacy These activities have primarily involved groups and officers from the following areas/organisations: Ardler, Menzieshill, Kirkton, Douglas, Fintry, Dundee HLI

8 What is VOiCE? VOiCE is a database planning and recording tool designed to assist individuals and organisations to design and deliver effective community engagement. VOiCE builds on two widely adopted and effective tools: National Standards for Community Engagement National Standards for Community Engagement Learning, Evaluation and Planning - LEAP

9 Community Engagement Planning What difference do we want to make? What will success look like? (indicators and evidence) What will we do? What do we have and what will we need to make this happen?

10 Local engagement plans Douglas – focus is on taking forward ownership of local land/ buildings with a view to developing community health and well-being projects and local social enterprise (local group formed and developing overall Project planning – need to identify specific added value from CWG legacy) Finmill – focus is on involving the people of Fintry to determine activities linked to the CWG that will involve participants in healthy activities (aim to engage local community at Fintry Gala in August, and engage Eastern European communities at multi- agency event in September) Kirkton – focus is on involving the people of Kirkton in determining sustainable approaches to inspiring and including participants in healthy activities to improve well-being (aim is to launch engagement activity at Kirkton festival in September, bring stakeholders together in October/November and facilitate a participatory planning process starting in January 2013)

11 Local engagement plans Menzieshill – focus is on increasing the number of local people attending activities in Menzieshill Community Centre and achieving a wider diversity of involvement in these activities (aim is to inform people about the CWG, develop wider consultation in the community and support involvement through local events) Dundee Healthy Living Initiative – focus is on raising awareness of the 2014 CWG, and assisting communities to identify and influence what the legacy might be as well as raising awareness of and increasing participation in the DHLI physical activity programme (aim to hold conversations with local people and groups, circulate promotional material, and support communities to identify and articulate key priorities) Ardler – focus is on engaging more people within the community to increase levels of participation and physical activity (aim is to explore and tackle barriers to involvement in Ardler Complex activities as well as investigating what is needed/wanted by local community)

12 Next Steps Refining and further developing the community engagement plans with local stakeholders Supporting and highlighting the initial engagement activities Developing links to local health and physical activity strategic planning Developing appropriate structures to support progression of the work across Dundee and in the localities
