2. Space Race The race between the USSR and the United States ended in 1969 when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon and returned safely back to earth. " One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind ".

3. Vietnam War and peace demonstrations. The Vietnam War started in 1959 and ended in 1975. The war was fought between North and South Vietnam. The South was supported by The United States of America. Fatalities: 3 to 4 million Vietnamese from both sides. 1.5 to 2 million Laotians and Cambodians. 58,159 U.S. soldiers.

4. Martin Luther King delivered his famous “I have a Dream” speech in 1963 which helped secure the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and The Voting Rights Act of 1965 which gained equal rights for African Americans. King was assassinated in the 1960’s.

5. John F Kennedy. Kennedy was assassinated on 22 November 1963 in Dallas, Texas. A lone gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald, killed the president but there has been consistent speculation ever since that Kennedy's death was the result of a conspiracy. Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States.

6. Mod’s Mod’s liked Scooters, ska music, parka jackets and were generally regarded as being the smarter dressed of the two groups. The Rockers had their own Uniform which consisted of a black leather jacket, Denim jeans, Black leather boots with white socks which were rolled over the tops of the boots The two groups didn’t always get on. There was a famous fight between the two groups on Brighton beach in 1964. and Rockers.

8. Music Following on from the 50's rock and roll with Bill Hayley and Elvis Presley new groups appeared in the 60's. There were two dominant forces: THE BEATLES and THE ROLLING STONES.

9. Fashion Women: Mini skirts and leather boots. Men: Paisley shirts and velvet trousers. Psychedelic clothes with bright colours for both men and women and the age of the Hippie was born. Men started to wear hair longer and women identified with the hippie look by wearing skirts and dresses longer often known as Maxies.
