2 A SLC is a smaller group of teachers and students, working together within a larger higher school, who build relationships to personalize teaching and learning and meet all students’ educational needs. Put another way, it is an organizational structure that will help us know and therefore teach our kids more effectively.

6 Tutoring Summer school X-Mester experience

7  A college preparatory program aimed at helping students gain college credit and experience college before they graduate from high school.  Rigorous course work with support through “Office Hours” will prepare students for college readiness and success.  Mentoring, personalization, project-based learning and an emphasis on study skills.

8 Our Rigor: Curriculum changes – for instance, our sophomores will be taking the integrated American Literature and U.S. History courses. Taking jr/sr classes earlier. 1: 1 Laptops using VM Ware. $85 on book rental plus $50 insurance A mix of traditional and project-based learning techniques Courses will provide challenging, thought- provoking work.

9 Honors – If you are taking more than two Honors courses, you are not able to apply for the EC program. EC Freshmen may take Honors Biology and Honors Algebra, but will take the non-Honors EC English 9 and Geography course which is referred to as Global Studies. Teachers will Office Hours before and after school. Students must pass through a “Gateway”, a set of criteria related to our Habits of Mind philosophy, to assure they are college ready.

10 1. Students who want to get a head start on college and earn an Associate Degree 2. A/B students who want to be in a 1:1 environment. 3. B/C students who work hard but need additional support. 4. First generation college students. 5. Students with a good work ethic. 6. B/C students who should be A/B students 7. Students for whom traditional teaching methods are not working well.

14 465 VU course enrollments first semester. Total potential credits being earned is 1,531 for first semester. Credit hour ranges go from 3 to 15 per student

15 Freshmen must enroll in two Vincennes University classes for credit: COMP 110 which is our Computer Apps class, and SKLS 103 which is our Keystone Class. Students will earn six college credits for these classes. Tuition costs are $150 plus approximately $50 for a textbook. Tuition is DUE MAY 1.

16 The pursuit of an Associate Degree (General Studies with a liberal arts emphasis) OR The pursuit of a Collegiate Certificate ( 30 hours)

17 All except three are on the Indiana Core Transfer Library. State Universities must accept these credits. For information about transferability, go to http://www.transferin.net/CTL.aspx For private in-state or out-of-state transfer policies, contact their Admissions Office.

18 Applications are online on the High School Early College Website. The deadline to apply is midnight, Monday, February 6 th. Parents will be notified via email no later than February 15 th. Paper applications are available by special request.
