4 DESIGN Rigorous and Relevant Honors Curriculum Personalized Learning Environment Technology, 1:1 schools High School Diploma Earn College Credit that will transfer to UNC system schools Commitment to Community Service WECHS-connected with Cape Fear Community College 4 or 5 years (Associates Degree) Take College Classes during 10-12 grade Isaac Bear-connected with UNCW 4 years (Avg. 40 hours of College Credit) Take College Classes during the 11 th and 12 grade years.

5 DESIGNED TO SERVE Students that want a non-traditional high school experience. First in family to go to college. Students statistically underrepresented in higher education - low income, first generation college completing, or racial/ethnic minority group. 7 HIGH SCHOOL COURSE OF STUDY 9 th Grade  Honors English I and English II (blended yearlong)  Honors Chemistry I and Honors Chemistry II (blended yearlong)  Two Math Courses –Math 1/Discrete Math, Math 2/Discrete Math, Math 3/Pre-Calculus or Pre-Calculus/Calculus (blended yearlong)  Honors World History and Honors Civics and Economics  IT Academy - Microsoft Word, PowerPoint & Publisher and Digital Integration  * if any of these courses were taken in Middle School, students will have the option to take a course through NCVPS or NCSSM 10 th Grade  Honors English III and English IV (blended yearlong)  Honors Earth Environmental Science and Honors Biology  Two Math Courses - Math 2/Math 3, Math III/Pre-Calculus, Pre- Calculus/Calculus (blended yearlong)  Honors US History and Honors African American Studies  Spanish I and II 11 th and 12 th Grade  Graduation Project  Freshman Seminar UNI 101  Health  University Courses

15 APPLICATION PROCESS 1. Students Contact School Counselor. Application Checklist-The counselor will begin collecting items for the Application Checklist. 2. Complete the Online Application by November 14, 2014; http://www.nhcs.net/EarlyCollegeApp/EarlyCollegeApp.htm. The application includes a 250-300 word essay. http://www.nhcs.net/EarlyCollegeApp/EarlyCollegeApp.htm 3. Counselor submits Application Checklists Data November 24, 2014. 4. Teacher Recommendations-Communicate with your four core 8th grade teachers (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) about completing a Teacher Recommendation Form. The School Counselor will send them an online form to complete the Teacher Recommendation. These are also due by November 24 th. 4. Interviews-students will be offered the opportunity to interview based on selections from the application process. 5. Students will be notified of interviews and continuing in the Early College Application process during the first week of January. 6. Student will be notified of acceptance the second week of February. Online Application

16 SUBMITTED BY COUNSELOR Grades (last year’s report card and this year’s grades to date). Attendance profile from 7 th grade and 8 th grade. Discipline profile from middle school. End-of-Grade Tests (7 th grade reading and math). If the student was not a NHCS student, please submit standardized achievement test scores for two years. Recommendation from a Counselor.
