2 Congratulations You’ve achieved something special already 140 applicants 125 at selection weekend Only 36 selected You only get one chance to attend a Jamboree Chosen to represent Berkshire and the UK You are going to the highest profile event in World Scouting

5 The Unit 36 Young people 20 boys, 16 girls 13aged 12/13 11 aged 14 12 aged 15/16 There will be 4 Patrols with PLs and APLs in each Need to build into a strong team over next 16 months Hopefully all born between 25 July 1993 and 27 July 1997 ! Good geographical spread Pang valley 5 Windsor 2 Slough 4 Maidenhead 7 Reading 4 South Berks 1 South East Berks 3 Wokingham 1 Taceham 4 Kennett 1 Loddon 4

6 You will be part of Scouting history There have been Jamborees every 4 years since 1929 except during WWII and 1979 There have been 21 Jamborees so far! The 22 nd will be the best one yet

7 22 nd World Scout Jamboree 30,000 Participants aged 14-18 from nearly every Country in the World 3500 UK Participants Plus Unit Leaders International Service Team (IST)

8 The Trip Not just a Jamboree! Pre Jamboree Event held in Copenhagen – 2/3 nights (c25th July 2011) 22 nd World Scout Jamboree (27 th July – 7 th August) Home Hospitality (HoHo) held in other Countries, possibly one of the Baltic States – 2/3 nights

13 The Site The site is near Kristianstad in southern Sweden A small town will be created With shops, banks, cafes, etc Split into sub camps and common areas ‘Camp in Camp’ experience

14 ‘Simply Scouting’ Every Jamboree has a theme. Sweden have chosen ‘Simply Scouting’ which has 3 components Meetings. To encourage meetings between different cultures, religions, Countries, etc Nature. Using the natural environment as a learning tool Solidarity. Helping the young people to see that we share a common responsibility for our World

15 Programme Subcamp Life Module Activities Fun, Global Development, Challenging, Culture, Interactive, Environment, Educational,Peace... Common Areas Within each sub camp and centrally Arena Events 3 large parties during the camp Camp-in-Camp A traditional Swedish Scout Camping experience off-site There are opportunities for day visitors from the UK!

16 Equipment and Food We will be given… Uniform, necker, badges, trousers Coat Large bag and day sack Tents, cooking equipment Anything else we decide to fundraise for! We will cook as a unit We will have meatballs every day We will buy food at on site supermarkets We have to clean up too! We will invite other Countries for dinner and will get invited back (hopefully)

17 The training Need to form a strong unit in 16 months Mixture of Training camps, one on a plane! Training days Fundraising events PLs training Patrol days Facebook (maybe) Small groups What we need to learn Scouting skills Pioneering, cooking etc Undertstanding culture Support each other First Aid Our strengths and weaknesses

19 Commitment Our Commitment To support you To guide you To train you To build you into a team Always available to talk to before and during the event To make sure you make the most of the experience To have fun Your Commitment To want to do it To be a team player To support each other To attend training camps and days To play your part in fundraising To tell others outside the unit what you are doing To learn through the experience

20 Costs The cost for the event is £2100 per person Includes Three Weeks travel, food and accommodation – 3 Countries Insurance Training Weekends and training days Uniform Kit, tents etc We’re in it together. We have to raise £84000 in 16 months Paid in instalments (Feb, July, Oct, Dec, March) Where does the money come from? Districts Scout Groups Unit Fundraising Individual fundraising Small group fundraising Company sponsorship or donations Parents Bursaries/grants Hard work
