ACT MATH (Test # 2) 60 Questions 60 Minutes 1 minute per problem

Six General Content Areas Pre-Algebra (14 Questions) Elementary Algebra (10 Questions) Intermediate Algebra (9 Questions) Coordinate Geometry (9 questions) Plane Geometry (14 Questions) Elementary Trigonometry (4 Questions)

WHAT IF YOU DON’T KNOW THE ANSWER? OR HOW TO WORK THE PROBLEM?

Eliminate the Wrong Answers Q: -5x-3 < 7 Choices:A) x = -2B) x > -2 C) x < -2D) x ≥ -2E) x ≤ -2 You know the answer will not have =, ≤, or ≥, so it must be either B or C

Substitution Q: -5x-3 < 7 Choices:A) x = -2B) x > -2 C) x < -2D) x ≥ -2E) x ≤ -2 You have already narrowed the answer down to B or C, but you are not sure which one is correct. Plug in a number greater than -2 and a number less than -2 for x and see which one gives a true statement.

GUESS!!!!! You are NOT penalized for wrong answers, You are rewarded for correct answers. If you don’t know the answer, GUESS – you just might get it right!!!!!! When you must guess randomly, always choose the same oval position – do not “Christmas Tree” the answers

“There are 5 minutes remaining on this test” Do not watch the clock. ONLY pay attention to the 5-minute warning When you hear the warning, Answer all of the remaining problems with your “guess” response. When you have an answer marked for EVERY problem, go back and actually work as many of the remaining problems as possible.

YAAAAAAWWWWNNNNN! If you finish a test early, go back and check your answers – make sure you HAVE an answer for EVERY problem and REWORK problems to be sure you did not make careless errors. DO NOT SLEEP!!!!! You are allowed to sleep according to ACT regulations, but it is BAD for your body. Closing your eyes for a short time only teases your body into thinking it is going to get some rest. In the end, you will feel even sleepier than you did before you laid your head down.

Calculator The ACT is designed so that a calculator is not necessary, however you will be much better off WITH one. Bring a calculator you know how to use (if you have never used it before, this is not the time to figure it out). Make sure your calculator is on the approved list.

Extract the Extras Q: A CD player chooses a track at random from a Beatles CD with 20 tracks, an Eagles CD with 20 tracks and a Led Zeppelin CD with 20 tracks. What is the probablity that it chooses the 2 nd track of the Eagles CD? A: The total number of tracks is 60 (3 CDs x 20 tracks each). If a track is chosen at random, the probability is 1/60 or 1 chance in 60. The names of the bands did not matter, the fact that it was the 2 nd track did not matter. It only matter that there were 60 tracks and one was chosen RANDOMLY.

NOT READ ALL PROBLEMS CAREFULLY!!! Watch for problems that ask “Which of the following would NOT be a solution for …” Generally, the first answer to one of the problems is one that WILL work, so students who did NOT read the problem will NOT get it right.

On your mark, GET SET To really be ready, your body must be in the best possible condition for the test. You NEED 8 hours of sleep the night before the test (preferably every night for a WEEK before the test) Make sure you eat a light, but filling breakfast.

Night, Night, Sleep Tight Wait, BEFORE you go to bed: –Locate your calulator –Locate your ID and Admission Ticket –Locate at LEAST TWO #2 pencils Put these with the shoes you will be wearing, in your backpack/purse, or by the front door. This will make it hard to forget them in the morning.

Relax Do Your Best Good Luck Bulldogs!!!!!!!!
