1 Human Environment Interaction
Europe and Russia

2 In the beginning……..

3 Then…….  factories no longer had to be along rivers
Increased the need for workers and fuel

4 ed  The need for more coal to be mined to fuel factories: Eastern Europe experiences Air pollution due to its reliance on coal powered technologies. (Acid rain, the destruction of the Black Forest)  increase in mining and burning of coal. As demand for resources grew Russian leadership invested money into building the Trans-Siberian railroad to obtain the resources in the region.

5  people moved to cities to find work, fewer farmers: Because of Europe’s large population there is a great demand for new land. Europeans have created new land (polders in the Netherlands) and formed settlements on land that may be unable to support them (Venice’s construction on swampy land and the resulting problems)  increase in population in urban areas, overcrowding, less resources

6  fewer farmers leads to shortages, large commercial farms developed that needed machinery to farm large plots of land  produce needs to be delivered to urban areas quickly before it rotted  Invention of gas and diesel engines allow for trucking  need for roads, increased pollution, etc.

7  increased demand for alternative sources for electricity
 nuclear waste, Environmental accidents, such as Chernobyl, can have a long lasting effect on the environment and there for human survival.
