2 Classroom teachers are paid on a single spine salary scale The incremental date for progression up the spine is 1 September Placement on the spine is determined by School Governors SALARIES

4 EXCELLENT TEACHER Minimum - £37,672 Maximum - £48,437

5 SEN ALLOWANCES Special Needs 1 - £1,912 Special Needs 2 - £3,778

6 PLACEMENT ON SCALE Experience (extra points on the pay scale for classroom teachers - discretionary) Mainly working with SEN pupils Recruitment and retention payment can be awarded as a lump sum or periodic payments

7 THRESHOLD On reaching the top of the Main Scale teachers may apply to cross the threshold onto the upper pay scales Assessment against national standards Teachers will be required to have completed the previous two performance management reviews to show how they meet the post- threshold standards

8 UPPER PAY SCALE U1- £32,660 U2- £33,870 U3 - £35,121

9 TEACHING AND LEARNING RESPONSIBILITIES (TLR) Awarded to teachers undertaking additional responsibility – e.g. Head of Department 2 payments – TLR 1 & TLR 2 TLR2 - £2,422 - £5,920 TLR1 - ££6,997 - £11,841

10 CONDITIONS OF SERVICE Professional duties as required Specific duties as may reasonably be required by the Head

11 PROFESSIONAL DUTIES (subject to amendments/limits as a result of the National Agreement) Teaching “Other related activities” Assessment and reports Performance management Development and training Educational methods Discipline Health and safety Staff meetings Cover for absent colleagues Public examinations Management administration

12 WORKING TIME 195 days of which 190 teaching days 1265 hours directed time The additional work clause which currently states “such additional hours as may be needed”

13 The National Agreement Raising Standards and Tackling Workload’

14 Objectives of the Agreement To secure significant and sustainable reductions in the workload of teachers To continue to raise standards To confirm and enhance the crucial pedagogic role of teachers To recognise the significant contribution to raising standards made by other staff in schools

15 Changes to a teacher’s contract with effect on 1 September 2003 Removal of the requirement routinely to undertake clerical/administrative tasks Provision of time within school sessions for teachers with leadership/management responsibilities Requirement that provision be made for teachers to enjoy a reasonable work/life balance

16 Changes to a teacher’s contract with effect on 1 September 2004 A limit on the amount of cover to absence a teacher can be required to undertake This is an initial limit The objective is for teachers at a school rarely to cover at all

17 Changes to a teacher’s contract with effect on 1 September 2005 Guaranteed minimum of 10% planning, preparation and assessment time within the timetabled teaching day The removal of the requirement for teachers to invigilate external examinations The introduction of dedicated headship time

18 NO DETRIMENT ‘Where the Agreement specifies a phased timescale for contractual change and implementation of other provisions, no steps should be taken in advance as a result of the Agreement, which would result in a worsening of current working conditions.’ ‘However, implementation of the provisions of the Agreement at an early stage or in advance of the statutory target date will be supported by the Signatories.’

23 Disability Discrimination Act (2005) Places a duty on employers to make reasonable adjustments to the workplace to enable employees with a disability to continue to carry out the role for which they were employed Places a responsibility on service providers to make reasonable adjustments in order to allow equal access to the service Right of access to civil courts or industrial tribunals for legal redress
