3 MMU – Interim Report May 2011 Noticeable improvements were made across the AfA cohort in both English and Maths. Pupils in Years 5 and 10 made significantly better progress in English than pupils with SEND nationally during the first year of the project, and Year 5 pupils made significantly better progress in English than pupils without SEND nationally. Pupils in Years 5, 7 and 10 made significantly better progress in Maths than pupils with SEND nationally. Pupils at School Action Plus, and those with HI, VI, BESD and SPLD, made more progress than other pupils in the cohort. Males made more progress in Maths than females, and the reverse was true for English. Overall, more progress was made in English than in Maths

Data is being put to a variety of uses to inform provision and promote positive outcomes The conversations  a more holistic view of pupils,  a culture shift in parental engagement, and  have been effective in building a genuine partnership. Parents feel more included in the process of their children’s education, more empowered. There have also been cases of improved pupil attendance, attributable to a refocus on the pupil themselves and strategies devised to promote enjoyment of school. 6 Data Collection Deadline to be early July – Date to be advised Data for all years to be current teacher assessments (except Y11) Year 6 will need to be sub-level grades – TA not Test Year 11 – Final Predicted GCSE Grade (converted to NC level) Placed into the SSAT site

7 Term 6 Visits Points for discussion At this stage what are the Key points to gather from schools? (Impact measures aside) Specific, evidence rich & practical What Evidence towards IM achievement?

8 So what!! – Term 6 prompts Specific case study opportunity, What’s the pilot taught you? What have you found to be effective in raising the 3A’s? What would you pass onto other schools? Main barriers? Are the schools able/willing to support the roll out? If so how? What’s made the difference? What is your biggest message to other schools? to the staff in your school? to the government? What would you not have missed for the world? What will you not miss? 5 why’s (So what’s) to impact

So what caused that? - Developing use of APP in the classrooms So what caused that? - Specific SMT decision to implement APP!

10 Points to consider from visits Do Structured Conversation reports include identifiable action points for parents? How are you communicating with parents in between conversations? – do you actively contact them – text, e-mail or face to face? Consider whether children are on track to exceed or meet targets where they may not previously have been? Considered how you will sustain the AfA Principals?
