1 EMC ITEMPOINT FOR MICROSOFT EXCHANGE SERVER
Note to Presenter: Present to customers and prospects to provide them with an overview of EMC ItemPoint for Microsoft Exchange Server. Quick, easy, mailbox recovery and restore

2 What is EMC ItemPoint for Microsoft Exchange Server?
Software that, when used with EMC Replication Manager, allows the quick recovery and restoration of individual mailboxes, , attachments, contacts, and tasks from a copy of Microsoft Exchange Server has become a mission-critical application, not only serving as the main conduit for communication, but also as a repository for important documents and files. Due to its ever- growing scale, and the fact that is considered “legal documentation,” a way to enable the ability to recover lost or deleted items is critical to the continuity of your business. The problem is clear: How many times have you received an urgent call from an executive or line of business trying to retrieve or an attachment that was deleted long ago? Certainly you may have tapes and backups, but that method will literally take hours if not days. The good news is that you are already using replication to protect Exchange, but a snap or clone of the datastore is only the first step to recovery. What’s required is a tool with high granularity that can quickly search for, find, and recover the individual or file. When used with EMC Replication Manager, EMC ItemPoint for Microsoft Exchange Server allows you to deliver granular recovery with quick recovery time objectives.

Because it… Is fast, easy, and secure; no changes required to your Exchange infrastructure Improves recovery time objectives (RTOs) for locating and restoring Exchange Is integrated with Replication Manager for simplified workflow ItemPoint uses EMC snaps, clones, or RecoverPoint continuous data protection (CDP) or continuous remote replication (CRR) replicas ItemPoint delivers maximum business value to Exchange, Storage, and VMware administrators by providing an easy-to-use tool for granular recovery. ItemPoint is easy to install and requires no changes or reconfiguration to your existing Exchange environment. With ItemPoint for Microsoft Exchange Server, granular recovery is fast and painless because of its powerful search capability that allows you to locate the or attachment quickly. Once the item is located, a simple drag-and-drop facilitates the recovery, requiring no “recovery server” as with traditional methods. ItemPoint requires Replication Manager or higher, and recovers at any granularity level from EMC snaps, clones, or RecoverPoint continuous data protection (CDP) or continuous remote replication (CRR) bookmarks. If you are currently operating an EMC VNX, VNXe, CLARiiON, or Symmetrix system, and are replicating your Exchange data with Replication Manager, ItemPoint is an important addition to your business continuity toolkit.

11 Requirements and Restrictions
Replication Manager supports item level restore (ILR) for Exchange 2007/2010 databases ItemPoint for Exchange must be installed on the mount host This is a rebranded version of Kroll’s Ontrack PowerControls RM Console must be installed on the mount host RM Agent must be installed on the mount host All of RM’s replication technologies are supported ILR is not currently supported for remote replicas (MV and SRDF)

12 Item-Level Restore Access
Action is accessible from a replica and application set The Restore menu option is changed to a cascading menu for ILR supported replicas. On the right- click menus and the Actions menu. Choosing Replica will do a full restore. Selecting Item Level will do a granular recovery. If ItemPoint for Exchange is not installed, the Item Level restore option is not displayed.

13 Item-Level Restore Wizard Welcome Screen
The welcome screen informs the user of the setup requirements for performing item-level restores. To perform and item level restore, the replica must be mounted to the current host. If the replica is not mounted or mounted to another host, the ILR wizard will prompt the user to mount the replica to the current host. The RM Console must be installed and running on the mount host along with the RM agent and EMC ItemPoint software. The current host must be registered to RM.

14 Item-Level Restore Wizard Welcome Screen error check
If the current host is not registered in RM, an error message is displayed and the user can not continue in the wizard.

15 Item-Level Restore Wizard Replica selection
This Replica to Restore screen will display all replicas for the application set, mounted or unmounted. If the item-level action is chosen from a specific replica, that replica is preselected in the list. The user can choose any available replica to perform and item-level restore on. If the replica is not mounted or mounted to another host, the ILR wizard will prompt the user and mount the replica to the current host.

16 Item-Level Restore Wizard Replica selection for RP
For specific point in time and any point in time RecoverPoint replicas, the user is prompted to select a replica.

17 Item-Level Restore Wizard Select Databases
Select one Exchange 2007 or 2010 database For Exchange 2007, users can select one database. For Exchange 2010, users can select one database. In this release, the user can only select one database to recover.

18 Item-Level Restore Wizard Mount Path
Can only mount to current host, so it is pre-selected User can select mount path Can select to mount a snap of the replica, if storage technology supports Can select to maintain LUN visibility Read-only mount is run The mount selection screen is only displayed if the replica is unmounted or not mounted to the current host. The host field is populated with the current host and is disabled so the user can not change it. A mount path can be chosen by the user. The mount options “Create and mount a snap of the replica” and “Maintain LUN visibility after unmount” are available only for Clariion Clone and Snap and VNX. A read-only mount is performed

The user must enter a temporary file path for ItemPoint to use for recovering the database. Once finish is selected, ItemPoint will launch with the selected restore objects.

20 Item-Level Restore Wizard Mount progress
RM runs a read-only mount Then starts ItemPoint If the replica was not mounted, a read-only mount will be performed on the current host. And then ItemPoint is launched

21 ItemPoint for Exchange
ItemPoint for Exchange is launched as a separate application from the RM Console. A screen is displayed with the parameters prefilled. Once the user selects OK, the selected database file is loaded.

22 ItemPoint for Exchange
Once the passed databases are loaded, the user can perform an item-level restore with the ItemPoint GUI.

23 How do the EMC ItemPoint ExtractWizards work?
Microsoft Exchange full or incremental backups created to tape or disk can only natively be restore to an Exchange server. The EMC Networker ExtractWizard process: Two options: direct and advanced methods. The ExtractWizard direct method allows restoration to an alternate hard disk or file system location from tape or disk backup. The ExtractWizard advanced method for Networker, using the locally installed Networker agent, will make API calls to the Networker server and return the possible restore points for the identified Exchange client. Specific backups (full/incremental) can then be selected for restore. Switched slides 11 and 12. Networker is first, more important. Changed wording for direct method in (now) slide 12. Changed from (slide 12): The EDB and log files will be restored without being mounted. These files are then ready to be opened with ItemPoint. The EMC Networker ExtractWizard works in the following fashion. Using the locally installed Networker agent, the ExtractWizard will make API calls to the Networker server and return the possible restore points for the identified Exchange client. Then you select the specific backup (full/incremental) you wish to restore.

24 How do the EMC ItemPoint ExtractWizards work?
The EDB and log files will be restored without being mounted. These files are then ready to be opened with ItemPoint. The Symantec Backup Exec ExtractWizard process: Similar to Networker, the ExtractWizard direct method allows restoration to an alternate hard disk or file system location from tape or disk backup. The ExtractWizard advanced method for Symantec Backup Exec uses an emulation process to provide an alternate location for redirecting an Exchange restore with the Backup Exec software. Note: The direct method requires manufacturer’s drivers for both the SCSI adapter and the tape device. Note: The advanced method requires the Backup Exec client to be installed on the system emulating Exchange. Changed from (slide 11): The Symantec Backup Exec ExtractWizard works in the following fashion. Microsoft Exchange full or incremental backups created to tape or disk they can only natively be restore to an Exchange server. The ExtractWizard will allow you to restore these backups to an alternate hard disk location. The ExtractWizard will emulate an Exchange server allowing Symantec Backup Exec to restore to an alternate Exchange server.

25 How do the EMC ItemPoint ExtractWizards work?
This method will initiate the restore to an alternate hard drive location without requiring it to be an Exchange server. It will restore the EDB and log files without being mounted. These files are now ready to be opened with ItemPoint. The ExtractWizards will not restore RM LUNs backups from Symantec or EMC Networker. The customer will have to follow the standard procedures to restore prior to presenting the data to ItemPoint. Moved bullets in.
