4 Reading 3 or 4 progressively more difficult texts read 1 text, answer questions, move on short, closed questions (multiple choice, matching questions) short, open questions longer, open-ended questions (explain, give reasons, comment on, compare texts to show their understanding) 35 to 40 questions = 50marks

5 Maths Mental maths test 20 questions (5secs, 10secs, 15secs) Paper 1 (non calculator) 45mins Paper 2 (non calculator) 45mins Level 6 Paper 1 (non calculator) 30mins Paper 2 (calculator) 30mins

6 SPAG Spelling- 20 short sentences to complete with word read out by teacher Punctuation and grammar – up to 45 questions to check understanding and ability to use L6 paper contains harder spellings, elements of KS3 and a writing task

7 How you can help your child during the Easter break Make sure they get lots of fresh air, play and sleep. Don’t make revising a big issue - we will revise in school in the weeks after the Easter holidays. Short 15-20 minute revision sessions a couple of times a day are usually most effective. Practise: spellings; times and division facts; key maths facts; read together and question for understanding; complete the 10 4 10 exercises.

8 How you can help your child during SATs week Make sure they get enough sleep. Make sure they eat breakfast. Encourage them to ask us if they are unsure about anything. Explain that the SATs are a way of showing what they know. Re-assure them that THEY CAN’T FAIL SATs! – they should aim to do their best on the day.
