6 The growing power of women Workplace Women are nearly half of the US labor force but hold less than 19% of executive positions In 2013, women held 17% of board seats for Fortune 500 companies while women of color held just 3.2% of those seats By 2050, 1 of every 2 women (53%) will be a woman of color Marketplace U.S. women have tremendous — and growing — purchasing power, as much as $15 trillion a year U.S. women report controlling nearly 73% of household spending and Canadian women report controlling or influencing more than 67% By 2018, minority spending is expected to grow 24% Source: Tapestry, Network of Executive Women, 2014.
