3 What you need to think about…
In a tidy little essay, explain how these stories use the supernatural as a source of evil. You will want to consider the literary elements of each story—look for similarities and differences. Here are some ideas to get you started (DO NOT ANSWER ALL OF THESE QUESTIONS… THEY ARE TO GET YOUR CREATIVE JUICES FLOWING): What about the protagonists? Did bad things happen to them? Did they deserve their fates? Were the supernatural elements in these stories entirely evil? How do people respond to supernatural situations? Is there a “logical” explanation for the supernatural phenomena occurring in these stories? By using supernatural elements in their stories, what are these writers trying to tell us?

4 Evil: People and Symbols of evil
Think about each character and how they represented evil throughout the play or short story. Do any of these characters have common actions that occur? Is there a repetition of symbols of evil in the play or short stories?

5 The Supernatural What ideas actions, or objects appeared to be of the supernatural?
