1 Japanese and European Castles 7 th Grade World History

2 Medieval Castles Throughout Medieval history, two distant civilizations, Europe and Japan, developed similar feudal systems. Both Japan and Europe were decentralized and in constant states of warfare during these medieval times. One distinct similarity is their use of castles as the center of feudal life. To understand the importance of castles and the feudal systems of Europe and Japan, you are going to research, design, and create a castle from one of these two civilizations.

4 What will you be doing? Research both Japanese and European Castles Build a castle with a partner (No more than two) or by yourself Your castle must fit on your desk Your castle must have a keep, four towers, a wall and one element of the castle that you research You must bring your own materials You must be creative and historically accurate

5 How will you be graded? 20 Total Points 8 points: Use of Class Time Prepared for class each day On task from bell to bell Managed and maintained materials throughout the project If applicable: Collaboration with partners 12 points: Castle (Must fit on a regular-sized desk) A castle keep Four towers with walls At least one additional castle feature based on your research Well-written caption for each part of your castle design A welcome sign including your names, the name of your castle, the location of your castle, and a slogan that captures the purpose of your castle Elaborate and historically accurate design
