2 Product Stewardship Purpose of the code:
It ensures health, safety and environmental protection are elemental parts of designing, manufacturing, marketing, distributing, using, recycling and disposing of products. Successful implementation entails that everyone involved has responsibilities to address society’s interest in a healthy environment and products that can used safely. The Code recognizes that each company must exercise independent judgment and discretion to successfully apply the Code to its products, customers and business.

3 Product Stewardship An ongoing product stewardship process shall include: Management, leadership and commitment Information and characterization Risk management

4 Product Stewardship Management, Leadership and Commitment
Leadership is demonstrated by Senior Management through written policies, active participation and communication. Goals and performance measures are compared to demonstrate accountability. Necessary resources are committed to implement and maintain practices.

5 Product Stewardship Information and Characterization
Establishes and maintains information on all hazards and reasonably foresees exposures from new and existing products. Characterizes of a product’s risk using information about health, safety and environmental hazards and reasonably foreseeable exposures

6 Product Stewardship Risk Management
Establishes a system to identify, document and implement health and safety and environmental risk-management actions appropriate to the product risk. Considers health, safety and environmental impact when designing, developing and improving products and processes. Educates and trains employees based on job function on how to properly handle, recycle, use and dispose of products. Encourages employees to feed back information on new uses, identified misuses or adverse effects for use.

7 Product Stewardship Risk Management
Contract manufacturers who employ appropriate practices. Periodically reviews performance of contract manufacturers. Requires suppliers to provide appropriate information on their products. Provides health, safety and environmental information to distributors. Reviews distributors to foster proper use, handling, recycling, disposal and transmittal of appropriate information to downstream users. When a company identifies improper practices involving a product, it will work with receivers to improve on those practices
