2 Why PDP important for students To encourage reflection & planning –On progress: academic, personal, training, employment, volunteering, leisure Why? –Students long time out of education –Prepare for competing in job market –Ready to discuss key events in university life when they meet their PAA

3 Certificate Level Key PDP stages: –Start of course; right choice? Dept policy? –Feedback; HEO assessment, action? –Programme Planning; reasons for choice –Results; plan for reassessment, right course? –Personal statement: achievements/ experience/ performance/ expectation/ action plan

4 I and H Level I Level –Employability module; work placement, CV completed? –Programme planning: preparing for graduation/ project –Personal statement; progress on course H Level –Project: dept info, supervisor, meeting, proposal? –Graduation statement: may be required with transcript; use for reference; use for job applications; relate course to career aims

5 PAA support for PDP & PDP support for PAA PAA referrals coincide PDP stages: –non-attendance; work or course related? –module choice; discuss course aims –results; action plan for resits, LDU support? Ask student about PDP – are they completing it? PAA use PDP to assist write reference

6 University PDP Framework All degree students starting 2004/05 Web site /ugstudy/pdp or tailored/ customised PDP linked to core spine modules HEO, Employability, Project PDP-supporting core modules in alternate semesters PDP related assessment introduced for 2005/06 starters
