Welcome. THEATRE ARTS CLASS RULES

Ms. Ferrarone It’s not that hard, I promise! 1.) “FAIR” 2.) “UH” 3.) “ROAN” I’ll pronounce yours right – please return the favor.

You are my “COMPANY”. A “company” is a group of professional performers that work together as an ensemble. That makes me your director…

Our Class Rules BE IN YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT WHEN THE BELL RINGS: BOTH BELLS. “KISS THE DOOR” AND HAVE ALL NECESSARY MATERIALS REQUIRED TO FULLY PARTICIPATE IN CLASS: A GOOD ATTITUDE, CLOTHING AND SHOES APPROPRIATE FOR MOVEMENT, ETC. NO UNRELATED DISTRACTIONS : CELL PHONES, IPODS, BLACKBERRIES, PERSONAL GROOMING, ETC. NO VULGARITIES, CURSING, OR PERSONAL INSULTS. PERIOD. RESPECT THE STAGE : GIVE YOUR FULL ATTENTION WHEN SOMEONE IS WORKING IN THE SPACE.

RULE # 1 Be in your seats during the bell. This includes the bell that signals the start of class and the bell at the end of the class. The bell doesn’t dismiss the class. It is there for me, not for you. Remain seated until I dismiss you.

RULE # 2 “Kiss the door” means leaving your baggage outside the class. In the theatre, there is a tradition of kissing your two fingers and tapping the stage entrance as you walk in. It signifies leaving the drama off of the stage…at least the drama that isn’t in the script. So, come into class prepared. That means a great attitude, homework completed, appropriate clothing and shoes to move, etc…Do NOT come to class in high heels or a mini skirt. You will not be allowed to participate.

RULE # 3 Class time is to be respected. Do not text message or preen yourself. We will be working on the stage – it is the ultimate rudeness to have your phone go off while someone is working in the space!

RULE # 4 This is a safe zone. Respect is mandatory. There will be no cursing or threatening behavior at any time. We are going to look out for each other.

RULE # 5 The stage deserves the ultimate respect. When anyone is on the stage, you are to give them your full, undivided attention. You will learn as much (if not more) from watching other people in the space than performing yourself. Being an active audience member is crucial to this class.

YOU ARE IN GOOD HANDS! I am looking forward to a terrific year with all of you!
