1. ABINGTON HIGH SCHOOL

2. Ninety-two percent of the Class of 2016 scored in either the Advanced or Proficient categories of the ELA MCAS exam, compared to eighty-nine percent of the State. This reflects a two percent improvement from the Class of However this reflects a ten percent improvement from the Class of 2014.

3. MATH MCAS
Seventy-nine percent of the Class of 2016 scored in either the Advanced or Proficient categories of the Mathematics MCAS exam which was equal with the state. This is consistent with the Class of 2015.

4. BIOLOGY MCAS
Seventy-nine percent of the Class of 2016 scored in either the Advanced or Proficient categories in the Biology MCAS exam compared to seventy-three percent of the state.

5. Sixty-six students took the Advanced Placement tests in May 2015 in Art Studio, Biology, Calculus AB, Computer Science, English Language and Composition, European History, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Statistics and US History, totaling ninety-nine exams. Computer Science, Macroeconomics and Statistics were taken through Virtual High School.

6. One AHS student received AP Scholar with Distinction – an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more AP exams. Four AHS students received AP Scholar with Honor – an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more AP exams. Nine AHS students received AP Scholar – scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams.

7. Thirty-five Abington High School seniors have qualified for the prestigious John and Abigail Adams Scholarship. The Adams Scholarship provides a tuition waiver for four years of undergraduate education at Massachusetts state colleges and universities for students who are accepted.

8. The Abington Education Foundation and Coombs Foundation, together with the Abington High School Anti-Bullying Club, National Honor Society and class donations, sponsored “Rachel’s Challenge” to inspire morals of kindness and compassion toward others.

9. AHS participated in two reading projects intended to build and support a culture of reading and literacy, I Am Malala and The Finest Hours.

10. Nine-non traditional athletes participated in Unified Sports soccer and basketball games as members of AHS athletic teams.

11. Twenty-eight students traveled to England, France, Switzerland and Germany in April 2015.

12. The National Honor Society inducted nineteen new members in recognition of their outstanding qualities of scholarship, leadership, service and character.

13. Twenty Abington High School students participated in Math Team, and finished a successful season.

14. Seven AHS students won honors in the Wordwright Challenge, a competition for American high school students requiring close reading and analysis of many different kinds of prose and poetry.

15. An AHS senior represented the high school in the Massachusetts State SemiFinal round of the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest.
Two AHS freshmen student’s work was chosen for publication in The Marble Collection: Massa chusetts High School Magazine for the Arts Spring 2015 edition.
One Abington High School student’s article was chosen to be published in the Best of School Newspapers.

16. Many Abington High School students saw their work of nonfiction, fiction and poetry published in the Greenwave Gazette and the Student Arts Magazine

17. Seven AHS students earned Boston Globe Scholastic Art Awards in 2015 in Digital Art, Painting, Sculpture and Sculpture Portfolio.

18. Five AHS students were chosen to display their artwork at the Emerging Young Artists Invitational Exhibition 2015 for high school students at UMASS Dartmouth.
One AHS student’s sculpture was selected as a finalist in the Arisia Student Art Contest. AHS Art students attended a Steampunk workshop with a local artist and learned how to repurpose antique items by adding modern technology.

19. A number of co-curricular events and activities continue to support the diverse interests and needs of students beyond the school day.
Twenty-four AHS students participated in the Old Colony YMCA 26th Annual Youth Conference.
 Two AHS student-athletes were South Shore League Scholar-Athlete Award winners.
Two AHS fall sports teams qualified for the MIAA State Tournament and four AHS winter sports teams qualified for the MIAA State Tournament.

20. Six AHS student-athletes participated in the MIAA Sportsmanship Summit
Six AHS student-athletes participated in the MIAA Sportsmanship Summit. Four AHS student-athletes were recognized at the MIAA Student-Athlete Citizenship Day.
Two AHS student-athletes represented the high school at the National Girls and Women in Sports Day.

21. Two AHS seniors were elected as the high school’s representatives to the Massachusetts Student Government Day assembly.
Two AHS students were elected as student representatives to the Massachusetts Student Advisory Council.

22. Peer Leaders and National Honor Society sponsored and supported several community service projects such as “Cell Phone for Soldiers”, Clothing Drive, Sock Drive and Can Drive.

23. The Class of 2018 and National Honor Society sponsored Trivia Night to raise funds for the Danny V Fund.
The Girls’ Soccer Team and Student Athletic Advisory Council sponsored “Pink Week” and raised $500 for the American Cancer Society.

24. Abington High School Music and Art students traveled to Orlando in May 2015.
Four AHS students auditioned and were selected to represent the high school in the 2015 SEMSBA Festival.
