1 MAYFIELD MIDDLE SCHOOL  Grades 5-8

2  We are working with a new building because the school district that we are in had a junior high that was not set-up for a middle school setting.  The building is one level and each grade has its own section.  The classes are by teams and there is one team per grade.  The gym also functions as an auditorium.  We have a big music and art rooms as well as a large library. There are two computer labs. One for the 5th and 6th grades and one for the 7th and 8th grades.

9 Mayfield’s Athletics  Mayfield offers many opportunities for its students to take part in a variety of athletic activities such as;  Baseball: Boys and Girls  Basketball: Boys and Girls  Cheerleading  Soccer: Girls and Boys

10 Middle School Athletics  Tennis  Track  Volleyball  Football  Note: Games may be on any day of the week, practice days vary, avg. length, two hours.

11 Mayfield’s Activities/org.  Math club: This is a after school program in which students every Tuesdays and Thursdays are welcome to come and get help on their math homework.  Yearbook: about 25 students are sceduled to help create the yearbook. Throughout the year they are in charge of designing, editing, taking pictures, and selling the yearbooks. It requires true commitment from the students!

12 Mayfield’s Activities/org  Builders club: This is a “student lead” community service organization. It operates under the school regulation. The member learn organization, leadership, and teamwork.  Student council: Mayfield’s student council is made up of one representative from every homeroom working with two co-presidents that are elected by the students. It meets once a week and organizes many school functions such as the school dance.

13 Mayfield’s Activities/org  Drama: We put on one play and a spring musical. Everyone is welcome to audition.  Quiz Bowl: this is a trivia game played on teams and is open to all students! Players buzz in to answer questions, and the team works together to answer bonus questions. There is an annual tournament with the regional schools.

14 Mayfield’s Activities/org  Choir: Students come together after school and practice twice a week for two hours, the students take part in concerts and competitions.  Homework center: Students are given help on homework after school from 3:00-5:00.  Band: meets every day and students are responsible for their instruments. There are practices after school on Wednesdays. There are a lot of opportunities for performance experiences by way of concerts and festivals.

15 Mayfield’s Activities/org  Art Club: This club is for seventh and eight grade students who are interested in art. Members elect officers, set dues, and participate in hands on activities, contests, and community service projects. Club is sponsored by the art teacher.  National Jr. Honor Society: The Honor Society chapter establishes rules for membership that are based upon a student's outstanding performance in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character (plus citizenship for NJHS). Students need at least a 3.0 to be considered for membership. When the school picks who will be a member a ceremony is held to honor and congratulate the new members.
