6 Reflexive verbs: When the object and subject in a sentence are the SAME-- in other words: the of subject the sentence acts upon itself, making it the object as well Examples in English– why are these reflexive? 7 Reflexive Pronouns To show that a verb is reflexive in Spanish, se is attached to the end. (ex. lavarse) When you conjugate the verb from it’s infinitive form, the se is dropped and the correct pronoun for the subject is used. Ex. Lavarse -> (Yo) me lavo. 8 ¿Cómo hacerlo? Steps: (if you already know your verb/subject in Spanish, skip to step 3) 1.Start with a sentence where the subject and object are the same. – We wake up. 2. Figure out what the corresponding subject is in Spanish and what the infinitive form of the reflexive verb is. – Nosotros/levantarse 3. Take the se off the verb and then conjugate the verb following the normal rules of conjugation (–AR verbs still have –AR endings, stem changing verbs still have stem changes, etc.) – (nosotros) Levantamos. 4. Finally, insert the correct reflexive pronoun in front of the conjugated verb. – (nosotros) Nos levantamos. Learning target: I can use reflexive pronouns to talk about what someone does to themself.
